trickle down trip-up

World food and oil prices skyrocketing, western booms stagnating.. and everybody's looking surprised!

I recall listening in to an argument between two economically minded uni friends a few years ago. One was a passionate advocate for "trickle down" economic policies, the other calling for some global Robin Hood to rebalance the worlds chequebooks ( Read more... )

Year of Jubilee! The system resets frequently enough for the disadvantaged to not live in permanent poverty but with enough years between Jubilee there is also incentive for entrepeneurial spirit to be rewarded.

It's a radical idea, isn't it? Get used to the idea that at some point in your life the economy will be reset. That empire you're tempted to build will be instantly erased, and you'll be back to square one, right alongside your debtors. So the economy itself reminds you that nothing lasts forever, and that 'ownership' is just one of humanity's many fleeting accomplishments. Brilliant.

A lot of entrepeneurs develop a business/idea to a point and then leave it to others, only to then work on a new project. It is this characteristic which defines the entrepeneurial spirit and would not be inconsistent with a jubilee system.
