The night air was cool on Yesung’s warm skin as he sat in front of the window, curtains drawn back and window open so he could feel the coolness against his face. He half sat, half lay with his legs folded back on the couch, palm to cheek as he gazed out at the dark night sky.

Yesung loved the night sky, loved the way the stars shined so brightly down on him and the rest of the world’s inhabitants like little beacon’s of light. Loved the way he could always look for the biggest or brightest star and pretend it belonged to the people closest to his heart. One star for each person, and the brightest and the biggest for the one he wished could be with him at that very minute.

And tonight, the person he wished could be with him that very minute was the last person he’d ever expected to fall in love with. And yet he had.

They were 15 now, as a group all together, and there were so many people he could have chosen. There were even more outside of his little group of 15, girls included, but he’d chosen a brother. His heart had chosen a brother.

Everyone expected it to be Ryeowook, the one he did the majority of his fanservice with. But Ryeowook was nothing more then a dearly loved little brother he held close to his heart. Someone he worried nonessentialy about because he felt it was his job to worry for the eternal magnae.

Some thought it would be Kyuhyun, his other little brother he’d gotten so close to when placed in the same subgroup. But Kyuhyun was the same as Ryeowook in Yesung’s heart, the magnae he had to take care of and worry about. The snarky one he sometimes felt contempt for but couldn’t bear to lose as he almost had after the accident.

There were those who wondered if Sungmin wasn’t the one he loved, the pink loving boy with the disarming smile who would compliment Yesung so well. But Sungmin was the one with daggers hidden in his smiles, a little too peppy for Yesung’s heart to fall for, but none the less loved by Yesung.

Siwon was a candidate too, the one every mother would want for her daughter with the same beliefs as Yesung and someone he could easily go to if he needed it. But Siwon’s dimples did nothing to start Yesung’s heart racing, his words created nothing but brotherly love and affection.

No, it was someone unexpected by more then just Yesung, someone everyone was sure had already given away his heart. Someone Yesung was sure he had no chance with.

He sighed as he stared up into the night sky, eyes flitting about to search for the right star. The brightest and the biggest and the warmest. If he could get no condolence from the one he wanted, he would ask it of the star he would call the others.

He smiled when he found the one he was searching for, reaching out with one of his small hands as if to catch it. His fingers closed around its brightness, momentarily blocking it out, and then he was bringing his enclosed fist to his heart and opening his palm against it.

A gift. For his heart.

“How I ever fell in love with you, of all people, I will never know,” he whispered to the star still shining brightly in the night sky. “You were the last person anyone ever expected, and yet you happened.”

He smiled as his eyes slipped closed for a moment, but no drowsiness was over coming him. Of course not. He couldn’t sleep, and that was why he was out here, staring up at the sky and searching for stars the way he had when he was a little boy sitting on rooftops.

“You never pay me attention, and when you do, it’s only to torment me,” he finally continued as his eyes slipped back open, suddenly and unwelcomly filling with tears. He didn’t like to cry, and he didn’t want to for his bully, for the one he loved. But he couldn’t help it, didn’t fully understand it.

“You probably don’t realize how much your opinion means to me. Probably don’t realize how I crave your attention,” he sighed, taking a deep breath of cold air as he continued to speak to his star. “But your opinion affects me to my very core, and I do crave your attention more than anyone else’s,” he said on the exhale.

“You are my brightest star,” he murmured, thinking of the times he would glance over and send a smile his way. And Yesung knew when the smile was for him, because his eyes would search him out, and the smile wouldn’t curve his lips until they met Yesung’s.

It always sent a little current of love through Yesung’s heart that he couldn’t identify until now. Until tonight when he’d pieced together what all the little clues meant. Until the puzzle was complete and he had the picture he’d been looking for all along.

He wanted to fit inside the arms of the broad shouldered and brawny man that he was in love with. He wanted to kiss the lips he found himself dreaming about. He wanted to cuddle into the others side when he’d had a rough day.

His eye’s fluttered closed. “Kangin…”

“You’re my brightest star too ya know…” Yesung’s eyes snapped open as his moment of peace was shattered, whole body spasming as he tried to get up quick enough. His eyes were wide when he found himself face to face with Kangin.

Not that the voice had been misleading.

“I…how much did you hear?” Yesung asked gruffly, shuffling his feet as a blush spread across his cheeks and he looked down, suddenly alert though the quiet of getting out his feelings had lulled him into tiredness.

Kangin chuckled. “All of it.” Yesung choked on his spit, staring in horror at his socked feet. That wasn’t supposed to have happened.

Kangin was so silent with his steps across the floor that Yesung hadn’t heard him coming, and only realized it when another pair of socked feet were in his line of sight. His head snapped up until he was staring into liquid brown eyes.

“But didn’t you hear me Yesung?” Kangin asked with a tilt of his head and little smile on his lips. He reached forward to put a hand under Yesung’s chin, the other going to cradle his cheek in a loving way.

Yesung could feel his heart in his throat.

Now that he thought of it, yes, he had heard what Kangin had said.

Kangin’s lips were suddenly warm on his, a chaste kiss that only lasted a fraction of a second, and then the other was pulling away, a teasing little glint in his eyes.

“You know, I tease you the most because I love you the most. And in the beginning…I was afraid of my feeling’s for you,” Kangin whispered, face inching closer until he was pressing another chaste kiss to frozen lips.

“I am sorry for that…but I can’t rewind time, can’t change what I did in the past.” Lips were soft on his again, puncturing every line.

“But I can create a different future…” Another kiss. “With you.” Lips moving against his with the words. “If you’ll have me.” Breathless now, both hands’s cupping his cheeks.

And then Yesung found it in him to respond, to kiss back, to wrap his arms around a strong neck like a girl would her boyfriend. He smiled, felt Kangin’s answering smile, let his lips slip open to accommodate for the probing tongue.

Felt warmness settle in his belly the way he’d never thought he’d get with Kangin.

“I feel bad then…” He mumbled when they broke apart for breath. “That you had to deal so long with unrequited feelings, and I’ve only known for a day what mine were.” He grinned up at Kangin, taking in those long eyelashes that for now, belonged to him.

Kangin laughed breathlessly against his face, and then lips were on his again. “I don’t care.”
