Crawling into bed that night somehow felt wrong to Kyuhyun. Knowing that he, not they, didn’t have a schedule tomorrow made him feel defeated and weak, something he hated above all else.
All week he’d been seemingly useless, unable to take as much as he had been before, unable to do more then the bare minimum without losing his breath, without feeling a wave of vertigo wash over him like the icy fingers of the tide at sea.
It made him want to slam his head into a wall, if only to make it stop. He hated the feeling, hated the pain that came with it, hated that the car crash had taken so much from him.
He hated that at times during practice, he felt claustrophobia clawing at his chest, making his vision swim and stealing the little breath he did have. The worst part was that it only really happened when he was doing nothing but sitting around.
They couldn’t, shouldn’t, be able to say it was because he was working too hard, and yet they did, taking even that little piece of consolation from him.
He’d spent endless months already laying in a hospital bed, unable to do anything but lie around and live in ever present memories that haunted him, the reflections doing nothing but slowly killing him, a suffocating weight on his mind.
He wondered if that was where the vertigo was coming from, wondered if it weren’t the anxiety and fear laced in his mind that was causing him to be so weak, something he hated oh so dearly.
Turning onto his side, Kyuhyun tried to find the haven of sleep, hoping no nightmares would afflict him tonight, to no avail.
He didn’t even have to sleep for those sometimes sightless memories to assail him. He could feel warm tears slipping down his cheeks already, could feel the claustrophobia pressing against his chest, the vertigo in his head like tiny pinpricks that warned him if he didn’t continue to breath normally he was going to pass out, not sure if he’d prefer that or not.
Kyuhyun could still remember the sidewalk with its pedestrians just as they had been through the passenger side window, could still remember hearing through the windows the sound of children’s laughter, and remembered smiling softly to himself at their innocence.
And then he remembered the sound tires made burning rubber, screeching against asphalt, the sound of metal crashing against metal, and then the dizziness that came from watching the street seemingly do somersaults.
Then all there was was the smell of blood, metallic and burning against his nose, and the pain, oh God the pain -
“Kyuhyun…” Yesung murmured as Kyuhyun shivered in memory. The voice would have startled him if he wasn’t already so attuned to it. He forced his body to still, unwilling to show weakness to the one who was unknowingly his strength. He hadn’t heard Yesung enter the room.
The covers were pulled back, the bed dipped, and then Yesung’s warmth was pressing up against his back, strong arms embracing him around the waist and pulling him even closer to a strong chest.
Kyuhyun sighed, allowing the tenseness that had been previously accumulating in his body to leave his muscles, relaxing against Yesung.
“Sleep now…” Yesung murmured, lips soft against his neck in a tender kiss, and Kyuhyun did, finding that he could sleep free of nightmares.
