Hiya, it's Tyler.

Couple notes!:

Stan Brakhage: The Corcoran's Paul Roth curated a retro/show of Brakhage for the National Gallery two or three years ago. If you want materials, etc. from the show, let me know and I'll get Paul to cough 'em up. He's really proud of the show -- and did an "appreciation" story about him for the Post when he passed on a couple weeks back.

Auping's Guston show: Saw it at MAMFW. Oye. It's a bear. I don't know where the Met will fit it all. It's a looooooong exhibit full of big canvases.

Also check out the St. Louis Art Museum/Pompidou book on the Kelly/Matisse drawings of plants that came out last summer! (It's in French and there is an English edition.)

Hi Tyler. Two critic friends flew to Ft. Worth to see the show a week or so ago, and came back with this report: "It's too big in Ft. Worth, it will be too small at the Met." I'm nonetheless looking forward to it, as I'm not familiar enough with his abstract work from the late 1940s through the mid 1960s. Seeing the late painting exhibition at the Fogg two years ago was a wonderful primer on the last decade of his life.

I'm on the lookout for an inexpensive copy of the Matisse/Kelly book and have leafed (no pun intended) through new copies at many stores. Kelly's lines are beautiful.. so sure of themselves.
