Hahah between all the fosters I've had and my own cats I've probably mixed 50 cats at different times considering half of them were rambunctious litters of kittens my cats hated
( ... )
thank you so much! this is extremely helpful. i was SO NERVOUS when they started getting close, and eventually got into a little fight. ive read different things; sometimes i read that hissing is fine, but when they actually FIGHT, you need to intervene and spray them, or throw a towel on them. other places ive read that they need to make contact to establish dominance. it still drives me crazy because the 2 yr old is 15 lbs (not overweight though - just really big boned), and the kitty is 2 lbs.
i will totally use your list as the gospel! thanks again!
Yeah, you don't really want them physically establishing dominance in my experience. They will figure out an alpha anyway but hopefully with 1 apt and 2 cats this won't need to be flexed very often! I feel like the intro-fights I've seen are usually "tentative" fights so I just clap/yell in my "bad cat" voice (HEEEEY! NO! NO! NO!) and run over to them at that point and my distraction usually separates them -- then I usually try to follow that up with a fun distraction like string toys/cat dancer again so they don't fixate on the hate.
At least once they're introduced you don't have to do it again! ;)
I'll definitely try to come out for the Friday show! I had a weird dental surgery last week though and have been cranky since then so I may not make it if I don't feel any better by then. Is the show upstairs or downstairs?
the show is upstairs. i hope you feel better though. happy healing, and if i dont catch you while im up this friday, then hopefully this fall sometime!
