un_love_you prompt # 15 [This is my desperation in action.]. Truth be told, this is a little bland for my taste, but since I can't bring myself to wrestle with it any longer [this piece refuses to cooperate, for some reason] I decided to keep it as it is excluding the few edits made here and there.
Disclaimer: They own themselves and I own myself [OC included]. Fair enough.
“I have had it!”
“Fine! You think you’re the only one who’s on the edge?!”
Arguments were more or less present in this couple’s relationship but their fights were getting worse and out of hand, especially as of recent. Before it was just the raising of voices, then it became shouting matches, and ultimately the pelting of things at each other, specifically the first thing they got their hands on. Now it boiled down to the fact that they simply couldn’t stand each other’s presence anymore.
And now, as she watched him shove all of his clothes into a messy heap in his bag, she realized: the moment he sets foot outside their apartment, everything was going to be over.
Despite all the painful words and bruises accumulated in this relationship of theirs that had long been on the rocks, she realized again: she really did not want him to leave. Maybe they should give it another shot. Yet she knew that resolute albeit grim look on his face. She knew what it meant. To him, enough was enough, and he couldn’t take any more of this any longer.
So she tried to change his mind. She begged, whined, allowed to compromise, but to no avail. It was as if he had gone deaf on her.
He had finally finished packing. He got out of the room, her following him closely. She was getting desperate. She didn’t want him to leave. Don’t go, don’t go, don’t go.
And then, before she knew it, she blurted out six words she never imagined would leave her mouth one day:
“You can’t leave me! I’m pregnant!”
She got the desired result. He stopped and tensed at her words, nearly dropping his bag in the process. He turned to her with wide eyes and a slack jaw, surprise written all over his face. She mirrored his surprise, but for all the different reasons-reasons now unspoken of for as long as she can help it.
Regardless of their unpleasant exchange minutes ago, he stepped up to her and embraced her, successfully intensifying her feelings of guilt inside.
Because she was never pregnant to begin with.
