Synopsis: Honestly, his teammates just did not appreciate all the work he put into making their meals!
Mukotsu was proud of his cooking skills. In fact, he was the only person in the entire Shichinin-tai that could make anything edible at all. Oh sure, at least Renkotsu and Suikotsu can make some pretty decent rice without destroying the forest, but none of them can create what he can. And he can create some very nice dishes if he does say so himself. Fish was his specialty. He prefers boiling it with wild onions and some shoots from different plants to make something tender and mild, not masked over with too many different spices.
Bankotsu had commented that it needed more salt.
No appreciation, the lot of them.
Of course, there was another dish he can make for fish which he discovered himself, and it tastes pretty good too. It consists of many ingredients such as peppers, ginger, and a wild arrange of spices and herbs. It was a pain in the back to make, but it tasted mighty fine.
None of the Shichinin-tai would try it because they said that soup was not suppose to be green. Tea, maybe, but not soup.
He was sorely tempted to poison everyone's breakfast the next morning.
He couldn't blame them; the rest of them simply had no class. All they wanted for breakfast was some dried fish and porridge. Maybe natto or pickled radish if they were feeling weird. Honestly, he could dump a whole wad of salt in the porridge and none of them would notice. Oh no, of course he wasn't still bitter over that time when he had slaved hours over that special rice porridge to make sure it was as perfect as possible and they didn't even notice. Hell, he even garnished it with seaweed! Seaweed! Did any of them know how hard it was to get seaweed in the middle of the forest? Did any of them appreciate his effort?
At least Suikotsu had commented that it 'wasn't bad'.
Mukotsu was a loyal member of his team and wouldn't dream of killing them while they slept, of course not!
And Kyoukotsu! He eats so much yet he barely tastes anything that damn mouth of his swallows! Renkotsu doesn't appreciate anything he's done for Ginkotsu either. Seriously, making food that was tasty, yet not sticky or hard to digest for him was such a chore. And Jakotsu...
Jakotsu. If that damn brat complains about his food one more time because he doesn't like the colour, he really is going to commit homicide. Er, homicide on a fellow brother that is. It's not like he hasn't committed enough murders while working, he should at least be able to relax in his spare time!
And getting his hands on natto for each breakfast when they were constantly living in a forest with little contact with villages unless they were going to slaughter one or another...
His mother had once said, "Subdue your passion or it will subdue you," to him when she had witnessed him arguing furiously with a fellow villager on how he's smoking the fish is not right because the flavor isn't getting in and it's not going to last as long because the fire's too much as well as there's a difference between smoking it and burning it and...
Cooking wasn't a passion for him. It was an art.
He was still awfully proud of his cooking skills though.
