Tablet Advice

Hello all! I know badkitty has/had a tablet before, but I didn't know if any of the rest of you have ever had a tablet. I've only heard of Wacom tablets. I would like to get some type of tablet to use when I make my wallpapers, icons, and edit artwork on the computer, since all I have at present is my mouse. Do you have any recommendations? I don't need ( Read more... )

I have something like this: http://www.shopping.hp.com/product/computers/notebooks/tx2z_series/rts/3/storefronts/NB220UA%2523ABA (not that exact model though), is that what you're asking about? I like it a lot, I'm horrible at creative stuff, so I've never used it for making graphics, but overall, I really like it.

Oh, that's cool! But what I was looking for is more like this. I have a computer, so I don't need it to do anything except allow me to draw onto my computer with it, rather than trying to free-hand with a mouse, lol.

Oo! Thank you! I got about $377 from graduation money, so I want to get something worthwhile. I am also getting charms for my Pandora bracelet (except they're all "knock offs"... the only thing actually "Pandora" about my bracelet is the bracelet itself is a hand-me-down from Mom and it's pandora-brand), but I've wanted a tablet for years and never got one.

i've heard pretty decent reviews on Wacom's new bamboo line.

this one's on sale for only $60 at bestbuy:

Regular Bamboo is advertised as a way to sketch or hand write emails and such. It seems fully capable of performing what I'd need a tablet to do. (According to the chart linked below, it doesn't have an eraser. Yet according to the video on this page, both Bamboo and Bamboo Fun have erasers.)

Bamboo Fun comes with a software bundle (Corel, Photoshop Elements, etc.) and has a mouse + pen + eraser. What would I need the mouse for? And I have "The Gimp", so I don't need the extra software.

Do you know if there's any other significant difference between Bamboo and Bamboo Fun? Wacom Bamboo Comparison Chart

And also, does it truly matter if I get the medium or small? Am I limited to a drawing the size of the tablet, or is that just the range/length of lines without lifting my pen/scrolling?

I was about to say Bamboo, too. I've used it before, and it's really inexpensive, yet Wacom (which is great).
I'd suggest if you're really not into digital drawing or painting, like, like a professional, you could enjoy it.
I had a Wacom tablet, costed about $60 and I was able to do things like this http://iitsyi.deviantart.com/art/JOHN-DARLING-13422426.
I think one "starter" tablet would do perfectly if what you want to do is wallpapers and random drawings.

uhm maybe I didn't explain well: I used the Bamboo tablets at school and work: my personal tablet (the one I used for the drawing I linked) was an ooolder model, and it sucked if compared to new ones!

So the Bamboo works just as well as any other Wacom tablet? I can't decide if I should opt for the refurbished Wacom or a Bamboo. When it comes to art on the computer, I would mostly use the tablet to make wallpapers, icons, banners, layouts, etc. and then I also like to touch up art that I colored by hand. (For example, I can make the whites of the eyes actually white, and can add accents and erase where the marker of the clothes bled onto the flesh.)

I think so. I used the plain Bamboo tablet to retouch photos, and it was good.
I saw on the Wacom website that there's different types of Bamboo: http://www.wacom-europe.com/bamboo/index.asp?pid=231
The "Bamboo FUN" seems to be specific to draw and paint, too.

I have a wacom bamboo tablet. It's awesome! I've just straight up drawn with it without a problem.

1. Does your Wacom Bamboo tablet have an eraser on the pen?
2. Do you have to hover your pen over the tablet, or can you "draw" on the tablet?
I was reading a 3-star review (outta 5) and the person complained that they had to hold the pen about 1-4mm above the tablet, because if they pressed the pen to the tablet, it acted as a click.
3. Is yours a Wacom Bamboo or Wacom Bamboo Fun?
4. If it's the fun, is your small or medium?

PS: Hi hi hi! I haven't talked to you in FOREVER! I cannot believe ya'll had friggin Desmond Tutu as your speaker! WTF!
