try to improve the contrast in the b/w version and to saturate the colours in the color version:)

I think it was the colour that really drew your eye to the photo, so I think that this black and white version is lacking something. It's still composionally good, of course, but I prefer the colour.

that's what i was going to say, along those lines.
the colour had a lot more impact.

I perfer the black and white a lot more then the colour. its far more interesting to look at. I think you should burn the sky in a lot though.

color is wonderful. b&w is magic. (my opinion on photography in general, not for your pictures here)
just add mistery to it, decreasing brightness a bit and increasing contrast. i guess... (if you have photoshop, try brightness -15 and contrast +15)
