Ariel adjusts to life on the shore quickly, throwing herself into acclimatization.
She explores the kingdom on foot, only rarely in shoes. She marches the length of the coastline initially, but as her smarting feet toughen, goes further. Eric protests when he sees the state of her blistered feet, tries to sway her toward horseback, but she never grows accustomed to it. Her heels become deeply calloused, and her stride unhindered by the terrain.
The windows remain open at night, and the sounds of the sea wash over them. At times, Ariel can still hear singing over the waves.
