On the first morning, Hadji rises to his camp filled with nervous chatter. Five of his students accompanied the trip, and look disillusioned. Jonny and Jessie have wordlessly partitioned territory and don’t interact all day.
By the third day, the unspoken truce has disintegrated and Hadji awakes to a shouted airing of grievances. All but the bravest of his assistants spent the next two days in the field gathering samples.
On the sixth day, Hadji emerges from his tent after a sleepless night to find his students clustered around a small coffee pot. Jessie and Jonny have yet to appear.
