2010 Readings

The favorites:
Westerfeld's Behemoth and Leviathan, and Jemisin's The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and The Broken Kingdoms made me remember how much fun it can be to read the right books, those books that just jive with your soul just right. And Battle Royale jived just right with a darker corner of my soul, and the Wodehouse readings were a nice way ( Read more... )

Ooh, I was gonna ask how the Westerfeld books were! Glad you liked them and I guess I'll add them to my ever-growing to-read list.

So good, and so frustrating that now I must wait for the third book to be released to continue the fun.

And I haven't called you or written or anything in forever, and I once again failed thoroughly on the sending Christmas cards front, but thank you for your card and I hope you and your family had really happy holidays.

What did you think of Proper Education for Girls? I read it this year, and I'm still debating. There's a part of me that believes that sophisticated fiction can't possibly be as compelling as that book was.

Yes, that! It seemed very unfair that, for as pretentious as I sometimes kept wanting to pull back and dismiss it as, I instead found myself getting thoroughly wrapped up and spellbound by it.

The whole switching sisters business ate my life for the week or so I was reading it. I consumed that book like I was a fat kid and it was cake. At times, I was aware of how heavy-handed the switching could be, but dammit if it didn't work on me every time.
