should I have pressed the gas and tried to straighten the car up? I've been trying to mentally prep myself for this for 4 years, but all my hard work was lost in the excitement of the moment. after all, this was only the third time that I've hydroplaned. (but only the second time it's caused a wreck.
You should have not pressed anything. No gas (stop pressing if you are). No brake. No swerving. You let the car slow down on its own and attempt to maintain control. When you feel the tires start holding the road (and you will know because the steering wheel feels different as well as slowing down faster), you can lightly apply the brakes to make sure you have control. If you're about to hit something, well, it gets tricky then. You should always leave a lot of extra space in front of you in conditions like that to avoid worrying about other vehicles.
The key to recovering from planing is to force yourself to basically do nothing. Same thing with ice, though it usually takes longer before you develop any friction with the tires which is why there are so many more accidents on ice.
So I saw facebook before this, but I'll repeat myself. I'm glad you're okay, and remember when we said it was inevitable?
oh shit, does that mean it's my turn again? maybe this time i'll just bump a parked car or something. and yeah. i really am glad you're okay and that kramer's still breathing.
oh hey, sorry about not replying to your email last night. i got it late and figured you probably wouldn't see it until today anyway.
school's almost out, wahoo! oh, are you guys going to the crawfish boil saturday after graduation stuff? let me know.
I don't think it's your turn. I think that we either pass it on to another group of friends, or it's Marc's turn, or our not as close friends have to wreck their cars now. Kramer is going to have an estimate done on Monday, but my dad and the shop guys were talking and they figured (from the outside and not looking in depth) that it was at least $6,800. and Kramer's only worth about $9k. So I may have totalled it. I think it's crazy that something could be totaled with hardly any body damage. I wish that I was going to the crawsfish boil. It breaks my heart. I have to turn off the radio when the commercials come on. I have a final on the MOnday after the Boil, and I'm already missing study time b/c of graduation, so there's no way that I can do it. :(

Also, did the crash researcher make those pink paint things, or did you happen to park on them and make them look important ??
