If you've any interest in seein this film, and you are near a digital theatre that has it in 3.D, see it that way. It truly is a unique and breath-taking experience. The movie is finally written a directed, i smell best adapted screenplay nomination. Do they take liberties with the story? of course. There is an entirely made up sense of paternity ( Read more... )

I thought it was quite good, even though as seeing it as a test audience I did not get to experience it in 3D, although I think in 3D I would've thought it a bit gross, lol. My BF and I were surprised it was only PG-13.

when i had read how impressive visually it was in 3-d, i sought out one of the (Sadly) few digital theaters in the area to see it at. a had a couple friends that saw it in regular 35mm.

we express a bit of surprise that it was pg-13 also, given the horror of some of the violence more than anything (the infamous nude scenes with angelina aren't even nude really...just barbie doll style genitalia). i really think, right or wrong, that since it was animated, it got the lower rating.

there's a lot to think about in the film, and i think i will see it again to ponder some of the changes from the poem. I just read the seamus heaney translation this past spring so it was interesting to see in what direction and tone the took some of the characters.

Yeah I don't think the outrage over the "nude" scene was at all justified, lol. You can get the same nudity from a doll. o.0 I wasn't offended, lol. Jolie is a babe! And the way they captured her as Grendel's mother was really interesting. I was way more offended by seeing a realistic animated man get his head bit off. =X

I was SO impressed with the animation, holy shit. The closeups of people's faces had PORES!! jesus christ. So very impressive. And yes, the dragon was amazing.

Its not true to the real story. He doesnt kill grendels mother! aside from the fact I hate Angie, im pretty sure im gonna enjoy it, but I know my english tutors are going to be raving about how they have destroyed the tone of the epic poem!

like i said, purists will howl at the interaction between grendel's mother. you either see and like the new point and theme they tried to do with regards to temptation and the running theme of "sins of the father/sins of the past" or you don't.

many english and literary people have expressed pleasant surprise at how faithful the movie is to the original poem.
