Anyone letting go of their domestic helper?

I'm looking to replace mine. She's a Filipino, with me for coming to 2 years, and she informed me that she will not want to renew her contract with me when it expires in April.  She also told our other Indon helper that she is looking for an ang moh employer with off days from Friday night to Monday morning, and pay of S$800 ( Read more... )

She's not very bright to think she can get a sweet deal like that in the current economic climate.

She's been influenced by some of her friend(s) who apparently have such benefits. If she was smarter, she should have realised that I've treated her so well (she's been on holidays with us) and would not have hesitated to up her salary or give more benefits. But of course not to the extent of what she is/was looking for. She also knows of the current world economic crisis as she reads the papers, but seems blinded by the lure of the perceived freedom of more money and time off.

we must trade info on maid agencies so we don't end up interviewing each other's current maid to go.

The scenario at my condo BBQ pit at 10am on a weekday - a group of Filipino maids, some dressed in spaghetti strips & very shorts - yakking away, having picnic and potluck while their mams and sirs who are totally ignorant - are working hard in the offices, while their children are napping or sent to school. I tend to generalise that most of them are from foreign households - the ang mohs, the japanese or the koreans, sadly, some are Locals - must be very very busy or very very ignorant. I told my 9+ mths maid not to mix with this group - still, she could end up borrowing money from one of them .. *sigh* And came knocking on my door one day to claim her debt, thinking I would not be around. Though it's now been resolved, I told my helper she just has to work much harder to earn my trust back all over again.

that's the life my current one is looking for, i guess.......

your helper is Filipino too? Must be difficult for her to fight the temptation to join the picnic group.

Yes, current one is Filipino. She told me the 'leader' in that group approached her first. Since they are all Filipinos, they wanted to 'help' her by extending credit 'with interest' to top up her tel. card woh .. Of course I blew my top when I found out coz after sending off money back home + spending on her off day, she took up their offer to top up her handphone instead of budgeting or using less of her handphone and spending within her means. She said she had learnt her lesson, hopefully .. sometimes I feel like I have to mother the helper even - coz she told me her mother is my age!

I so missed my previous Indonesian helper who'd been with me for 4.5 yrs, with Ryan from 6mths to 5yrs! She's gone back to marry and still sms us once in a while - ex mah! She's now a happy mother to a 5+mth girl.
