The Sabbath

It's my only day off between two six day stretches at work, so I decided to take a real Sabbath instead of rushing around to try to accomplish all the chores I feel I should be doing. Sabbaths are hard for me. I always feel like I'm being unproductive if I rest. But, on the other hand, if I don't rest I get sick when I'm really supposed to be ( Read more... )

I totally know what you mean about the world sort of choosing not to acknowledge the idea of a sabbath. I support you fully! Maybe that's just cause me and God have had a hot date every saturday for a very long time (sadly, that doesn't really ususally count over the summers - life gets a little crazier). But I notice that when I don't get time to sleep in and take a prayer nap with God and sort of veg out for a morning or so, I get very scattered and I can loose my peace alot quicker. I always think of Elisha crashing under a tree and the angels feeding him and telling him to go back to sleep. Once we can recouperate and get back to God, we can just deal with life so much more graciously.

By the way, this is Liz! I totally didn't know you were on here! I'm glad you are!

Hi, I know that this response is a little late, but I was reading up on your journal (since I JUST noticed you friended me and it is almost June :-) ) and thought I'd put my 1/2 cent in. Rest is a very interesting thing. Most people think of it as sitting around doing nothing, or better yet, sleeping. While it is those things, you can also rest by going hiking, or running in a 5K ( ... )
