* Gaius_Baltar leaves the sanctuary and starts heading down the path that leads to his apartment complex. His mind is -humming- with ideas, now. Everything's coming together.
Gaius_Baltar> "You know," he says to the air, stepping over a log (more of a skip than a step, he's in a good mood), "I don't even have to -lie.-"
DrGrey> "/Really/ now?" Comes an amused and interested sounding voice. Behind him. Oh, helo.
* Gaius_Baltar gives a decidedly unmanly yelp as he wheels around, nearly tripping back into the brush in the process.
* DrGrey is standing there with his arms hooked behind his back, grinning. Ismene is still perched on his shoulder, and you get the idea she'd be making much the same expression if beaks allowed for it.
Gaius_Baltar> "Doctor Grey," he says, straightening his glasses with a shaking hand. "H-Hello." It's obvious enough that his earlier confidence came from the security of the AV field. The way his eyes are darting back and forth, it looks like he's considering running.
DrGrey> Ismene gives a short, low caw, crouched on Grey's shoulder and staring right at Gaius. "Greetings, Gaius." She says, in that same perpetually amused tone she usually has. Grey grins at him, quite possibly enjoying Gaius's reaction. Quite possibly. "Hullo, Gaius." He tilts his head a bit. "...Who were you talking to just now?"
Gaius_Baltar> "Myself," he spits out, feigning all the derision he can muster. "Though it isn't like it's any of your business."
DrGrey> No, I suppose not. *He shrugs, Ismene bobbing on his shoulder with the movement. She tilts her head alll the way to the side, in that eery way birds do, still peering at him.
Gaius_Baltar> "S-So," he says, losing most of his anger to the nerves. "What are you doing here, then?"
* DrGrey shrugs again. "We left Sanctuary about the same time. Apparently we chose to head in the same direction." He smirks.
* Gaius_Baltar points at Grey accusingly. "Don't think I don't know what you did to me!" Beat. "And-- And I don't think I don't know that-- that -you- know!" ...that sounded so much better in his head.
* DrGrey narrows his eyes at Gaius and Ismene takes off from his shoulder in a flurry of wings and flying feathers to perch in a branch above Gaius, staring down at him. "I've told you I don't know what you're talking about. Clearly, your experience is with an alternate of mine." He smiles unpleasantly. He knows, now, that he wasn't exactly a good person. And maybe, because of that, he shouldn't want his memories back. Maybe he should want to turn a new leaf or something. But he doesn't. Whoever he was, it was /him/, and he wants to be him again.
* Gaius_Baltar flinches when the bird lands near him. "Well," he says, forcing the confidence in his words. "I know you're lying. There's no one else here to prove yourself to, so what's stopping you?" He spreads his arms. "Why not confess?"
DrGrey> "How do you know he's lying?" Ismene asks from her perch above Gaius. Grey raises an eyebrow at Gaius. She poses a good question!
* Gaius_Baltar shoots a look at the bird, annoyed. "I -know.-" He doesn't, really, but he's got a gut feeling, and he's going to run with it. He turns back to Grey. "I like to think I have a pretty good idea of when people are being dishonest. I make you uncomfortable."
DrGrey> Ismene tsks, sounding amused. "I thought you were a scientist, Gaius? You'd rely on pure intuition to make such a serious accusation?" Grey smiles at him, slipping his hands into his pockets and stepping forward now. "I should think most people would be uncomfortable at being accused of murder." He muses, sounding thoughtful. He tilts his head at Gaius. "Though, I'd say the one who was most uncomfortable would be you." Grin.
Gaius_Baltar> "Yes," he snaps at Ismene. His eyes dart back to Grey. "I -am- a scientist. And -as- a scientist, I'd greatly prefer if you were to call me 'Doctor Baltar' as opposed to my first name. I'm not your -friend.-" He's intentionally missing the point. (He doesn't like thinking about how irrational he's been lately-- gods, no.)
* Gaius_Baltar continues, more frantic. "And one is generally uncomfortable after being put through an automatic saw! Do you need me to -jog your memory-, Doctor Grey?? Do you need me to recite everything??"
DrGrey> "Doctor Baltar." She says obligingly, but not without a mocking tone of amusement. Grey feigns a wince. "An automatic saw? Really?" Why yes, he is fucking with you, Gaius.
* Gaius_Baltar isn't discouraged yet, but maybe that's because he isn't really thinking. "An automatic saw, yes! You stabbed me, you were-- you were laughing! This is all you! It's all you!"
* DrGrey suddenly looks a little uncomfortable, but he's quick to hide that. Ismene clacks her beak. "I don't know what you're talking about." He says slowly, again, like trying to drive a point home into a particularly thick skulled child.
* Gaius_Baltar steps forward, trembling. "You know," he says. "You've always known! I won't let you hide that. I -refuse- to let you hide that!"
* DrGrey narrows his eyes at Gaius. "And what are you going to do?" He hisses.
* Gaius_Baltar hasn't gotten that far in the plan. He falters. "All I want is the truth."
DrGrey> "Yes, well, you've gotten it." He raises a hand and Ismene flaps down to perch on it. "I guess you'll have to be satisfied with that." He smirks. He hits the PIN in his other pocket and is gone.
