I am losing my battle with Type 1 Diabetes and I am just pissed off and need to vent to people who aren't going to say, "Well, did you change your port site?"
For the past few months I've been having a very hard time with bloodsugars. Not helping this is the fact that the Army moved us to Germany in September and honestly I seem to know more about Diabetes than my German endo. Barely anyone uses a pump here (which is fine, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with shots!), they still use those BS books I used in the early 90s because they don't have the equipment to download meters, and they had no idea what I was talking about when I mentioned carb and basal equations (my previous diabetic nurse manager used equations, I don't know how she did it, but they always seemed t0 be pretty dead on so I thought they were a widely used thing), it's still blatant trial and error here.
For a while my bloodsugars were nothing but low. I actually had my pump set to a basal of .25UpH and was still low! Glucose didn't seem to help for more than a few hours at most and I was continuously eating to keep my bs up which led to some very unwanted weight gain. Then for a week or so it goes haywire and won't go down. It has been higher than my monitor can read several times but I just am not understanding WHY! I'm not sitting around eating candy or anything!
So 2 and 3 weeks ago it was in the low phase of constant eating and nothing helping, now it's in the high phase. Right now my bloodsugar is 501 and I feel horribly sick. I cannot understand what is going on or why this is happening and all the endo can tell me is to not eat and do bloodsugars constantly. Should I just not eat for a few days and see if things get better??
Now I'm wondering if it has something to do with my menstrual cycle. Have any of you ladies experienced something like this and figured out how to help yourself through it?
Are any of you from Germany or have lived here and dealt with the doctors and could give me some pointers? My German isn't great, I'm taking classes though, and my Endo's English is fair at best so it does make explaining problems and getting answers that much more difficult. I may have to just go back to the US and get help there :-/
I apologize for this being completely disjointed and random. Thank you for any advice or help you can give me, I am struggling here!
