And then he knew, even if he wanted to avoid it, it was too late.
Author's Note: This is set in an alternate universe with Minho and Key as university/college students but it really doesn't affect the story that much anyway. You'll see. Coincidentally, when I was writing the story, I came across this
wonderful edit on tumblr. And I just thought it was meant to be, because it described this story so perfectly, and that's where I got the title. Credits to billapejic.tumblr for being so sweet and making this possible. ^^
It was one of those nights Kim Kibum and his 91-line were at yet another party to celebrate the end of a semester and the start of the summer vacation. But this time round, Kibum wasn’t really in the mood to drink or dance, and for that matter, socialize. Perhaps it was because of the lack of sleep he had after the previous night of partying and how he was practically still recovering from his hangover but whatever the reason, Kibum just knew he needed some peace and quiet, to be alone by himself until the rest of his 91-line had their fair share of fun and were ready to leave. Not knowing exactly where he was or how to get back home, Kibum still needed to hitch a ride back from them.
And so, as his friends lost themselves in the music and alcohol, Kibum sneaked away and climbed up the stairs of the house he was in. He knew it was rude of him to explore the owner’s house without permission but he really couldn’t stand the noise and crowd anymore. Besides, the owner was probably too drunk and high to care anyway. Deciding not to bother about common courtesy, Kibum entered the second floor and did a quick scan of his surroundings. There were four rooms altogether, two on each side of the level, and one of the room doors were left open. Noticing that the room was dark, Kibum thought it would be fine for him to enter the room and quickly decided to head there and spend the rest of the night inside catching forty winks. Little did he know, someone was already inside the room, someone, who Kibum realized upon his first step into the dark room, was talking to himself…
“Believe me when I say this is going to be the most difficult thing I’ve ever done in my life, but I just want you to know, that you’re worth everything I’m risking, and I’d do anything to be able to be with you so I hope, I’m praying, that you feel the same way about me too-”
“Wow.”
Upon hearing his own voice in the room, Kibum widened his eyes in shock, his hand immediately shooting up to cover his mouth when it occurred to him that he had just stupidly announced his presence in the room. And if Kibum had thought of running away to escape the embarrassment, he wouldn’t have the time to do so because the occupant of the room had instantly reached out to flick on a light from a lamp in the room and was now staring straight at him with guarded eyes.
“How long have you been standing there? How much did you hear?” The stranger, who Kibum had to admit was well above average looking, fired question after question at him, “What are you doing here? And who the hell are you?!”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to- I thought the room was empty but you’re here and I just-” The stranger’s anxiety made a usually indifferent Kibum flustered as well.
“You didn’t answer any of my questions.”
Kibum gulped upon hearing the rather intimidating voice.
“I, uh, heard enough to know that you’re practicing to confess your feelings to someone…” Kibum fidgeted uncomfortably under the stranger’s stare as he raised a hand to wave awkwardly, “and hi? You can call me Key.”
The stranger openly judged him from head to toe before he let out a breath defeatedly and introduced himself, “Minho. And could you please come in and shut the door?”
Kibum shook his head and pointed to the back, “I think it’s better if I leave and find someplace else…”
“No, I, umm, wouldn’t mind hearing your thoughts about what you heard just now…” With Kibum looking at him like he just spoke gibberish, Minho cleared his throat nervously and decided to try convincing the eavesdropper-turned-acquaintance to stay, “I just feel that you’ll be able to give me an honest opinion and perhaps some helpful suggestions as well since we don’t know each other at all.”
The sincerity in Minho’s voice had Kibum pondering for a moment, wondering if he should indeed help this guy he didn’t know at all. In normal circumstances, Kibum couldn’t care less about the affairs of someone he didn’t know, always making sure to mind his own business and never adding his two cents worth. But upon seeing the desperateness in Minho’s eyes, Kibum couldn’t find it in him to turn the guy down. In the next second, he stepped into the room and closed the door behind him with a shrug of his shoulders.
“Since I have nothing better to do…” Kibum muttered and walked closer to Minho, taking a seat on the edge of the bed, “I’ll see what I can do to help you.”
Minho visibly heaved a sigh of relief as he joined Kibum on the bed, making sure to maintain a comfortable distance as he sat on the other side of the mattress. “Thanks.”
Kibum shot him a slight smile and took the initiative to get the conversation going. “Alright, so you want my honest opinion?”
“Yeah.” Minho returned a smile, a somewhat bitter one, as he went on to say, “The cold hard truth please.”
Kibum nodded. “Well, it sounds romantic, like you copied it from some dialogue of a movie, and yeah, it seems that it’s more than enough to melt anyone’s heart.”
“But?” Minho could hear from Kibum’s tone that it was coming.
“But don’t you realize how much pressure you’re putting onto the person you’re confessing to?” Kibum asked as he paid close attention to Minho’s reaction.
“What do you mean?” Minho creased his eyebrows in confusion.
“Saying that you’re willing to risk anything?” Kibum repeated the words he had heard earlier and shared his thoughts as requested, “Love shouldn’t be like this… it should be carefree, easy, comfortable… not something that will put a burden on the person you love. You’re making it seem like it’s a hard decision, that you’re sacrificing something, whatever it is, to confess your feelings.”
“Wow, I… never thought about it that way.” After soaking in Kibum’s words, Minho admitted before he nodded slowly, “You’re right… I probably shouldn’t say that…”
“You shouldn’t.” Kibum emphasized, “Don’t be over dramatic. I think it’s always best to keep it simple, three words are all you need.”
“You think?”
“Well, you wanted my opinion, didn’t you?” Kibum simply replied before he shrugged his shoulders, “In the end, it’s still entirely up to you to decide what you want to do.”
Minho nodded, “Thanks… Key.”
“It’s no big deal.”
A comfortable silence surrounded them as Minho and Key shared a smile with each other before they looked away and were momentarily absorbed in their own thoughts. After a moment to himself where he used the time to consolidate his thoughts, Minho was the first to break the silence.
“Hey… you could leave now if you want to.”
Kibum turned to look at Minho and confessed, feeling somewhat embarrassed, “The bed’s sort of comfy, I’m actually rather tempted to lie down.”
“Are you familiar with the owner of the house?” As if a sudden thought had struck him, Minho abruptly asked.
“Not at all. I don’t even know whose party this is.” Kibum chuckled.
“Me either.” Minho laughed along with his new friend.
“Why are you here then?”
Minho’s smile turned sad. “I thought it’ll be a good time to confess…”
“Oh.” A look of understanding appeared on Kibum's face. “The person’s here?”
“Yeah, but it isn’t really a good time anymore.” Minho said before he turned the attention away from himself and asked Kibum, “What about you?”
“I’m here with some friends… and one of them got invited so the whole group just tagged along. Isn’t that always the case for parties?”
Minho completely understood what Kibum was saying as he thought out loud, “This is probably the third party I’ve been to ever since finals ended.”
“Oh?” Kibum’s curiosity was piqued. “Which university are you from?”
“Konkuk.” Minho replied before he asked, “You?”
“Myongji Uni.” Key answered and offered a little additional information about himself, a fact he was rather proud of, “I’m studying music.”
Minho’s eyes lit up with amusement, “I’m in arts too, majoring in film though.”
“Interesting.” Kibum quipped as he finally gave in to his temptation of lying down, making himself comfortable on the soft mattress.
Mirroring Kibum’s action, Minho chose to lie down on the mattress as well with his arms folded behind his head, “Very.”
“Yeah right.” Kibum scoffed, “Honestly Minho, we don’t have to talk you know, you really don’t have to answer me for the sake of keeping our conversation alive… I’m not going to be leaving anytime soon but I’m perfectly fine with the awkward silence and all.”
Minho let out a hearty chuckle as he turned his head to look at Kibum, “You’re brutally honest… I like you.”
“Why, thanks.” Kibum’s eyes crinkled into a smile, wanting it to be over-exaggerated so Minho could tell he was being sarcastic but as he rolled his head to the side and met Minho’s eyes, his expression froze in place. His heart, too, had stopped for a split second.
And it was that exact moment that Kibum realized how truly good looking the other occupant of the room was. Even as a guy, Kibum couldn’t help but admire how attractive Minho looked. And he had no qualms of letting Minho know this as well.
“It must be easy for people to like you since you look this good.”
Minho couldn’t help but laugh when he heard Kibum’s opinion of him, “Key, you don’t have to say something nice back to me just because I did…”
“Just being honest, that’s all.” Kibum replied before he was unable to hold back a yawn which brought tears to his eyes.
“Tired?” Minho voiced out his observation.
“Absolutely drained.”
“You should head back home.”
“Can’t. I don’t have a ride back.”
“I could send you back.”
“Are you always this nice to strangers? We don’t even know each other that well.”
“I’m offering you a free ride and you’re turning it down because of that?” Minho asked disbelievingly and added after, “And FYI, I was thinking of leaving anyway since I don’t have a reason to stay any longer.”
“Even if it isn’t on the way?”
“Even if it isn’t on the way.”
“Alright then, let’s get the hell out of here.”
With that, both Minho and Kibum pushed themselves off the bed, stepping out of the room one after another, and finally left the party that wasn’t meant to be behind.
*
“- the next thing I knew, I was being approached by him and he- Kibum?”
“Hmm?” Upon hearing his name, Kibum hummed in acknowledgment. And that was all he did because his eyes were still focused elsewhere when it should have been on his best friend, Nicole, who he had asked out on a catch up date over coffee.
Reaching out to tap Kibum’s hand that was resting on the table, Nicole asked, “What are you looking at?”
“Sorry?” Slowly, Kibum focused his attention on the girl in front of him but his mind was obviously still somewhere else.
“You haven’t been listening to me, have you?” Nicole pouted.
“What?”
“Seriously, I’ve been talking for like 15 minutes and it seems you weren’t listening the entire time.” With Kibum still seemingly lost and confused, Nicole huffed in annoyance and turned around to see if she could figure out what was so interesting behind her back, “What’s got your attention?”
“Sorry Cole.” Kibum sheepishly apologized and then cleared his throat, “It’s just- I saw someone I recognized… remember how I hitched a ride back from a guy I met at the party we were at a few days ago?”
Nodding, Nicole repeated what Kibum had previously recounted to her on the phone as a teasing smile grew on her face, “The guy that you told me every girl would easily fall in love with? The very same guy you said was boyfriend material, way better than the jerks I choose to be with?”
“Yes, that guy… Minho.” Kibum ignored Nicole’s poor imitation of the tone he had used on her and said, “He’s actually at the other side of the café now.”
“Well then, go over and say hi!” Nicole nudged Kibum with her feet under the table, “You really didn’t have to stare at him for 15 minutes…”
“He was with someone else and something was happening so I was looking…” Kibum explained himself before he realized he needed to point out something to his best friend, “And hey! Why should I say hi? It’s not like I’m desperate for friends. I have the 91-liners.”
“Suit yourself, baby. You didn’t have to get so defensive…” Nicole shrugged, picking up her Caramel Frappuccino for a quick sip, and then continued, “So? What was happening with this Minho guy?”
“I don’t know, he was alone at first, and he seemed very nervous to me… and then this other guy came and joined him at the table. It looked like things were fine, they were talking and all, until I saw Minho take in a huge breath and he said something... something short. And then all I noticed was how heartbroken he looked, how the other guy just stood up and he tried to stop him but the guy just shrugged him away and left Minho there by himself. I’ve never seen someone look so devastated before…”
“Wow. Sounds to me like he just got rejected…” Nicole muttered out loud, somewhat distracted with stirring her Caramel Frappuccino, but in the next second, she suddenly gasped and had her eyes widened at Kibum, “You didn’t tell me this Minho guy’s gay!”
“I didn’t know!” Kibum replied, as shocked as his best friend at the sudden discovery that the person Minho wanted to confess to that night at the party was a guy.
Now that he thought about it, Kibum was almost certain the ‘something short’ that Minho had said to the guy was the three words he himself had advised the other to say that night at the party. All of a sudden, everything connected in Kibum’s mind. How Minho had originally intended to say that it was the most difficult thing he had to do and the risks he had to face all made sense to Kibum now… and this was shocking news to Kibum.
“To think you even mentioned how you wanted to introduce me to him if you ever had the chance…” Nicole shook her head incredulously, “Can you imagine how awkward things will be?”
“I know, but I really thought-” Kibum was in the midst of explaining himself when his eyes fell onto Minho and saw him standing up, “Oh. He’s leaving.”
“Maybe you should go after him… make sure he’s alright?” Nicole suggested.
“I think I should too. I mean, the guy did drive me back home once...”
“Go!” Nicole urged her best friend to hurry, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.”
“Alright, I’ll treat you coffee next time, bye baby!”
Throwing that sentence behind, Kibum grabbed his things and quickly hurried after a lifeless Minho…
*
It wasn’t hard to catch up with a person who was walking on the street like a zombie but Kibum, not knowing how to approach Minho, had left the heartbroken male by himself, quietly tailing him instead and making sure he was fine. It wasn’t until Kibum realized that Minho had walked right past his car that he was left with no choice but to break Minho out of his reverie.
“Hey!” Kibum speedily closed the distance between Minho and him, and placed a hand on Minho’s shoulder to stop him, “Your car’s over there.”
Not at all shocked by a sudden touch on his shoulder, Minho sluggishly turned around and blinked at the owner of the hand for a while before his lips parted in surprise. “Oh, it’s you.”
“What are you-”
“I saw what happened at the café.” Kibum found himself interrupting Minho before he could stop the words from leaving his mouth. It probably would have been a better idea to think before he spoke especially with someone who was in such a vulnerable state. True enough, Minho’s face fell, his lips pressed tightly together as he remained silent. Removing his hand off Minho and looking down in regret, Kibum knew he deserved to be scolded.
Upon seeing how sorry Kibum was, Minho let out a breath and finally broke the tense silence, “I can’t say I still like you for being this honest.”
Kibum instantly looked up and was about to apologize when Minho shook his head and gave him a friendly smile.
“It’s alright… I should probably thank you anyway… for following me.”
“Sorry…” Kibum still found himself saying even though Minho didn’t want to hear his apology. “-for everything… my advice didn’t work out… maybe, if you had just followed what you originally planned to say…”
“No, it wouldn’t have made a difference.” Minho replied, he wasn’t in a state of denial; he was one who always faced up to reality, “He only sees me as a close friend… I was the one who had high hopes that he would have feelings for me because of how close we are. Although I don’t think we can be friends now, it was still worth the try… it’s just… I knew, somehow, it wouldn’t work out… and I thought I prepared myself well for the heartbreak, but I never imagined it to be this painful… it seriously feels like my heart just got ripped out of my chest.”
“Minho…” With Minho sharing his innermost thoughts with him, Kibum couldn’t find the right words to say to comfort the guy and all he could do was place a hand on the taller male’s shoulder. “I’m sorry, I-”
Just when Kibum was worrying about how he should console Minho, he was caught off guard when he suddenly felt an additional weight on him. And mind you, it was heavy enough to cause Kibum to stumble back a step before he could steady himself and adjust to the pressure on his body. This pressure that came from Minho in the form of a hug had him at a loss for words. All Kibum could do was allow his senses to be invaded by everything that belonged to the heartbroken guy as he found himself lifting his hands to stroke the other’s back as if he could soothe the pain away by doing so.
Leaning his forehead against Kibum’s shoulder, Minho muttered into his shirt, “Sorry, I just need to lean on someone for a bit… I feel like I’m crumbling… like I’m about to lose it any moment now…”
Although they were in the middle of a street and getting curious looks from passersby, Kibum had no intention to push Minho away. It wasn’t because he was feeling sorry for Minho that he allowed the guy to hug him, it was more because of the fact that somehow, he could feel Minho’s heartbreak. After all, he had watched the entire scene of how his heart was broken unfold. He had seen all of Minho’s expressions - from nervousness and excitement, to hopefulness, to uneasiness and regret, and finally ending with sadness, dejection and despair. Even though he didn’t know much about the guy, Kibum simply wanted to do whatever he could to ease the pain for this guy who really didn’t deserve the heartbreak because Kibum knew Minho was a good person. Shouldn’t good things happen to good people? Kibum sighed to himself and brought his attention back to the person that was in his arms.
“It’ll take time but I’ve a feeling you’ll come out stronger, Minho. I know you will.” Kibum said gently as he wrapped his arms around Minho’s shoulders to properly hug him tightly, somewhat believing that he could pass some strength to the silent male through the action. “You’ll find someone better, someone who’ll take away all the pain you feel now and make you happier than you ever felt before. Just wait and see.”
*
Kibum almost had to rub his eyes one evening when he arrived home after his part-time shift at a CD shop when he saw a familiar stranger loitering outside the main door of his apartment building.
“Minho?” With surprise written all over his face, Kibum walked towards the guy who had pushed himself off the wall he was leaning on and questioned, “What are you doing here?”
“Hey Key! Glad that I managed to catch you...” Minho's relief was evident and his smile was as bright as sunshine. “I wanted to contact you, treat you to a meal or something to thank you for spending that day with me, but I realised I didn't get your number...”
“But you knew where I lived so you decided to drop by and find me straight here?” Kibum tried to see if his guess was correct.
True enough, Minho nodded, stuffing his hands into his pocket and standing on his toes to stretch himself.
“How long have you been waiting?” Kibum questioned next.
“Not long enough for me to want to give up.” Minho shrugged as if it was no big deal as he said, “That's not important anyway. So? Care for a meal?”
“I have plans-”
“Oh, then maybe another-”
“-with myself.” Cutting Minho short, Kibum completed his sentence with a playful smile, “Those plans can wait since I could never pass up a free dinner.”
Minho hid a chuckle behind his hand and jokingly pleaded, “Go easy on my wallet please.”
“No promises.” Kibum cheekily replied as he followed Minho towards the direction of his car.
There was something so easy about being with Minho. Maybe it had something to do with how he was such an unbelievably nice gentleman or maybe it was because he was just playing nice and returning the favour after Kibum had comforted him that fateful day… Honestly, Kibum didn’t know why he felt so comfortable with Minho; he couldn’t pinpoint an exact reason why he felt like he had known the guy for years… not that he cared anyway. Some things just didn’t need to be figured out. What was important was that Minho was most certainly a friend.
*
When Kibum acknowledged Minho as a friend, he most definitely did not expect his thoughts to be occupied by him and only him. That wasn't to say that Kibum spent every breathing moment thinking about Minho because no, without a doubt, Kibum wasn’t that obsessed. He just couldn’t seem to get his mind off Minho when he had time to himself and silence as his company. It happened the most when Kibum was trying to fall asleep at night and something about Minho would drift into his mind. It started off with Minho’s captivating smile, and then came his hearty laugh, soon it was his soothing low voice, or his entrancing big eyes, his alluring full lips… just everything about the damn guy, even the way Minho raised his eyebrows had appeared in Kibum’s thoughts. The guy had charisma alright, and it was messing Kibum up so bad.
Kibum probably should have never given Minho his number. That was how everything began. The casual chatting, the hanging out together, the getting to know each other better, the let-me-treat-you-now-and-you-can-treat-me-the-next-time dates (that, for obvious reasons, wouldn’t be ending anytime soon), the lengthy heart to heart conversations… it was a friendship everyone wished for, except that it wasn’t. It was driving Kibum completely insane that this friendship he shared with Minho was different with what he had with his 91-line. Funny how he did the exact same things with the 91-liners as with Minho and yet, the feeling was completely different… different in a way so special that Kibum wished he never felt this way towards Minho.
Why haven’t I heard from you lately, babe? - Nicole
Hey! There’s a café that everyone’s raving about, wanna go try it today after your shift ends? - Minho
Minho’s text was the best answer to Nicole’s question. Kibum knew he was spending too much time with Minho but there was no reason to stop himself because he was truly enjoying every moment spent with him. It had come to the point that even arguing with Minho and annoying the hell out of him (Kibum had found out that Minho was helpless against his aegyo) was absolute fun. The best part of being friends with Minho though, Kibum had to admit, was being able to be himself with Minho and knowing that Minho would never judge him. Kibum himself knew he could be overbearing at times but somehow, Minho could put up with that. He was just that good a guy, and sometimes, Kibum wondered why it seemed as if Minho was so perfect… and when he was fed up with questioning why, he talked to Nicole about it and his best friend had answered that question for him.
Nobody is perfect, bummie, but ever thought that he’s just perfect for you? - Nicole
Nicole’s message should have made things clear for him but instead, Kibum ended up more confused than ever. Being around Minho made Kibum feel like he was entering a haunted house. Never knowing what to expect in the darkness, he became hyper aware of not only his surroundings and every step that he took forward, but also himself - the sound of his heartbeat, the erratic rhythm of his breathing and the constant tingle down his back. He was cautious, afraid and wary about what might come but excited and thrilled all at the same time as he delved into the unfamiliar and explored the unknown, never looking back. Kibum knew he would hate the journey, regretting that he made the decision to put himself in such a situation, but love the experience at the end of the day. That was exactly how it was when he was with Minho.
If it wasn’t friendship, Kibum knew it could only be one other thing. So was it love? Well, Kibum honestly didn’t know. His idea of love wasn’t supposed to be like this. Of all things he had imagined love to be, it had to be with a girl, a lady, a woman. He had it all pictured in his mind - he would find a girlfriend, marry her, start a family with her, grow old together till death do them apart. That had always been his life plan. Yet, Kibum couldn’t be sure about it anymore. How could one person, one guy specifically, make him doubt himself so much?
And then Kibum knew. Even if he wanted to avoid it, even if he wanted to run away, even if he wanted to make things right, it was all too late. The effect Minho had on him was undeniable. Irrevocable damage had been done to Kibum and he was on an inexorable slide towards the arms of Minho, that is, of course, only if Minho felt the same way about him.
That was another thing Kibum wasn’t sure about and well, obviously, he couldn’t figure this one out by himself. And so, when Kibum was clear with his feelings and had reached the point of no return, his straightforward character caused him to call Minho over to his apartment for another heart to heart talk over alcohol (because as brutally honest as Kibum was, there was still a part of him that lacked the courage to do so and needed the alcohol to calm his nerves, and hopefully also loosen Minho up). The whole rollercoaster ride he went through had led to this moment when he was now sharing his couch with Minho, who was watching him closely with worried eyes. Kibum had waited until he was halfway through his second glass of beer before he finally had the guts to approach the topic he wanted to talk to Minho about.
“Minho… I know it’s none of my business to know this, and you don’t have to answer if you’re not comfortable with talking to me about it but…” Kibum took in a deep breath and cleared his throat, not wanting to beat about the bush any longer, “How did you find out you were gay?”
“Is that what you wanted to talk to me about?” Showing no signs of discomfort, Minho asked instead, “Jeez Kibum, I thought something bad happened to you, you got me worried for a moment. If it’s just this, I-”
“It’s not just that…”
“What do you mean?”
“Could you answer my question first?”
Minho looked at Kibum for a moment as he picked up his beer and took a swig, before he broke his silence and answered his obviously impatient friend.
“When girls tried to get my attention, I didn’t feel anything for them at all… I couldn’t. People thought I wasn’t interested in relationships, and that was what I thought too at first. Until I met this senior on the soccer team. I was drawn to him and I really liked him, you know, more than a friend. I would think about wanting to be with him. That’s when I found out I was attracted to guys. I can’t explain it, Kibum, it’s just how I am… but the thing is, bummie, I always believed in this, you don’t fall in love with the gender… you fall in love with the person.”
”You’re right.” Kibum agreed with a determined nod, “You’re absolutely right. I always wondered why I couldn’t seem to find a girl I was interested in… turns out I just never got my focus right. I had this ideal type in my mind all along, and I concentrated so much on the appearance that I just couldn’t find someone suitable. But now… now that I know… I…”
“You found someone?” Minho voiced out the first thought that came into his mind, “A guy?”
“Yeah…” Kibum gulped, sweat forming on his palms as the rate of his heartbeat picked up, “You, Minho. I like you.”
The irony of the situation struck Kibum. He was actually taking his own advice to keep it short and simple with just three words, and using it on the very same guy he had given the advice to. On top of that, Kibum suddenly hated how he had to be this honest and blunt with his words, always going straight to the point, because judging from the shocked expression on Minho’s face, Kibum shouldn’t have just dropped the bomb on him like that. After all, everything had happened so fast. Yet, there was no turning back. And so, Kibum sighed, trying his best to hide his disappointment, as he attempted to make the situation less awkward.
“You don’t have to answer me, Minho.” It was a decision Kibum made when his eyes met Minho’s, and then he went on to say, “I just wanted to let you know how I feel…”
Minho licked his lips nervously, “Kibum, I’m-”
Seeing how serious Minho looked, Kibum couldn’t help but interrupt as he tried to make the situation less tense with a slight smile, “You know me... I’m brutally honest.”
“You know I always like you for that, Kibum.” Minho said earnestly.
“I know.”
“I don’t only like you for your honesty… I like you for reasons much more than that too.”
“But?” Kibum could sense that Minho had something more to say.
“You were there when I had my heart broken, Kibum.” Taking in a deep breath, Minho began sharing his thoughts, “It hasn’t even been a month since then but it’s been so easy for me to get over it… because of you, Kibum, you were there and you made everything better, and I found myself moving on so fast. I would think about you, like all the time, and I started to ask myself if I was displacing my feelings on you precisely because you’ve been there for me.”
“Are you?” Kibum bit his bottom lip and asked nervously.
“I don’t know, I’m still trying to figure out, I just know I can’t afford to screw things up with you, Kibum, you mean too much to me…”
“Okay…”
“And I was thinking we should take things slow, you know, not rush things… we’ve only known each other for how long? A month? Less than a month? I mean, I don’t usually fall in love this fast and- wait, what am I saying?! Fuck it!”
A second ago, Kibum had been looking so seriously at Minho and listening intently to him as he voiced out his thoughts. But now, his face was held in Minho’s large warm hands, his lips were caught in a passionate kiss by the very lips that had been haunting his thoughts, his body was pressed back against the arm of the couch by a body he had dreamt of touching before. Things were heating up pretty fast, lips meshed together and tongues battling for dominance, hands roaming on whatever skin they could touch, hearts beating so fast, but neither Key nor Minho could care less.
“I should have done this earlier…” Minho muttered against Kibum’s cheek as he reluctantly broke the kiss, giving both Kibum and himself time to catch their breaths, “I’ve got all the answers to my questions now.”
Feeling Minho trail kisses down his neck, Kibum sighed in bliss, slipping a hand loosely around Minho’s neck, and mumbled breathlessly, “You should have done this earlier.”
Minho laughed against Kibum’s shoulder, “And spared you all the nonsense I was sputtering just now right?”
“Yupp.” Without hesitating, Kibum happily agreed and brought Minho’s face back to his, reconnecting their lips. “But I like you like this so don’t go changing, you hear me?”
“I won’t, Kibum.” Minho promised against Kibum’s lips with a smile, “I’m here to stay.”
*
When Kibum told Minho he would find someone better, someone who’ll take away all the pain and make him happier than he ever felt before, never in the world did he expect that someone to be him. Perhaps it was meant to be, perhaps it was fate. Kibum would always be left wondering if coincidences happened for a reason, but one thing was for sure, he would always thank his lucky stars that he could be that someone for Minho, and that Minho was that someone for him.
