Let's Play Catch Up; Minho/Key

Apr 30, 2013 23:40

Minho has his way to catch up with his competition; even if his competition is a non-living thing. Inspired by Kibum's love for ketchup as seen in SHINee's Wonderful Day/One Fine Day.
Author's Note: yes, it's a play on words - catch up = ketchup. seriously questioning myself how I even thought of this, but umm, no regrets? I'm not even sure if it makes any sense so this may just be my very first crack fic... except it's not exactly funny. to play safe, i'll just classify this as a slice of life drabblish oneshot. and with that, i'll leave the story here and hope you wonderful bunch of readers who have found your way here would enjoy this! ^^

Minho couldn’t believe he was saying this but it was becoming rather hard to deny that his latest rival in love was ketchup. Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you; it was indeed ketchup, otherwise known as tomato sauce, that sweet and tangy sauce you would often use as a condiment to western food, the very same sauce that was currently Minho’s boyfriend’s latest obsession. It was absurd but these days, the rapper found himself competing for Kibum’s love with the non-living thing. Let’s just say, ketchup had become the third party in his relationship with Kibum.

Kibum’s love for ketchup was unrivalled. This, Minho felt the most when he was out to dine with his boyfriend, wanting no more to have his one on one time with Kibum over a romantic meal, only to end up with said boyfriend’s attention being completely stolen by a damn bottle of Ketchup. And it was happening again, right now, at Trattoria Molto, a restaurant famous for not only its Italian pasta and also its steak. Minho wasn’t there for the food though, he especially chose the place because the restaurant was highly recommended online for its relaxing, home-like ambience and Minho knew Kibum loved dining at places like this. And so, when they finally managed to find a night where they were both free from schedules, Minho made a reservation for a private room two nights before just so he could bring Kibum out for a proper romantic dinner and do what normal couples do for once.

Everything was going to plan, both Minho and Kibum thoroughly enjoying the company of each other in the wonderful ambience, until Kibum had requested for ketchup to go along with his steak. That was when Minho knew he probably should not have allowed Kibum to ask for the sauce from the waiter, or for that matter, order the steak.

“Mmm~ Yummy~ oh my god, Minho, this ketchup is amazing…” Kibum gasped, his voice a pitch higher than usual, as he raved about the delicious taste of the ketchup the restaurant served, “You have to try this!”

In an instant, Kibum had cut a piece of steak for Minho and dipped it in a generous amount of ketchup that Minho doubted if he would even get a taste of the steak because it looked more like a blob of tomato sauce. And that just turned Minho off so much so he was actually frowning in distaste.

“Open up!” Kibum ordered as he brought the fork to his boyfriend’s mouth a little too enthusiastically that he didn’t gauge the distance accurately and some of the ketchup on the steak had messily got onto Minho’s lips since the rapper had not open his mouth in time.

“Ah.” Kibum blinked, an awkward apologetic smile growing on his face, his hand slowly bringing the fork back down onto his plate, as he watched Minho’s expression turn into something he knew wasn’t good, somewhat helpless yet angry and upset at the same time.

Kibum’s intuition was telling him that Minho was trying to hold back his anger and knowing this intuition of his was never wrong, the blonde knew he had to do something quick to appease his boyfriend before the flaming charisma erupted like a volcano and ruined their date. In the next second, Kibum found himself leaning forward towards Minho, a distance close enough for his tongue to lick the ketchup that stained Minho’s lips and clean the mess that he had created. As his tongue slowly traced Minho’s lips (very much on purpose) to remove all traces of ketchup, making sure he didn’t miss a spot, Kibum paid close attention to Minho’s expression. And when he caught the surprise in Minho’s widened eyes and noticed how Minho’s whole body had tensed up, the blonde knew it was a success.

“There, all gone.” Kibum grinned victoriously, very much satisfied with his quick wit for getting him out of yet another problem, and slowly moved back to his original position.

Yet, before he could sit back comfortably on his seat, Minho had reached out to grab Kibum’s arm and pull his boyfriend back towards him. The rapper did a much better job than Kibum at finding his target as he accurately pressed a bruising kiss to the blonde’s slightly parted lips. Kibum tasted like ketchup but Minho found himself actually liking the tangy taste of sweet and sour. Perhaps, he didn’t hate ketchup that much anymore… With that thought in mind, Minho released Kibum with a smirk and allowed his boyfriend to return to his original position.

“You know, I can now understand why you find ketchup so delicious…” Minho pondered out loud, smiling at the blonde who still hadn’t recovered from the sudden kiss he got from Minho.

Kibum unconsciously licked his lips as he hesitantly met Minho’s eyes. His boyfriend’s suggestive comment had left him speechless, unable to find the words to respond to Minho. Kibum didn’t have to worry about that though, since Minho had filled in the silence with an idea that had just popped into his mind, an idea that would make Kibum unable to see ketchup the same way ever again.

“Maybe, later tonight, we could play with ketchup when we do our favourite thing?” Minho suggested with a naughty glint in his eyes.

Swallowing a lump that had formed in his throat, Kibum stared disbelievingly at the rapper and said, “You’ve got to be kidding me.”

With part of his attention back onto his plate of spaghetti that had been ignored for a tad too long, Minho twirled the pasta around his fork and shrugged, “It’s the two things you love the most, Kibum, I don’t see why you seem so against the idea…”

When Minho looked up to find that a blush had crept onto Kibum’s cheeks, the rapper realized that Kibum’s love for ketchup could actually be put to good use. For all he knew, maybe ketchup would indeed spice up their relationship… And all of a sudden, Minho really didn’t mind Kibum’s obsession with ketchup. After all, judging by Kibum’s reaction, he and ketchup seemed to work well together, very much to his boyfriend’s liking and that was all that mattered to Minho.
