In which Kibum is there for Minho after their loss in Dream Team.
Author's Note: Inspired by the episode of shinee on Dream Team. Watching the episode may help you to understand the story better. ^^
It took almost an entire day but the recording for Dream Team had finally come to an end. It wasn’t a happy ending though because shinee had lost the competition. And when they were finally alone by themselves in the changing room under instructions to get a quick shower and a change of clothes before they began their long journey back to the dorm, Minho had gone missing. Although all three of them noticed the absence of the rapper, it was Kibum who wordlessly zipped back his jacket and left the changing room in search of Minho, because both Onew and Taemin, and even Kibum himself, knew he was the best person to deal with anything related to the rapper of shinee.
It didn't take long for Kibum to figure out where Minho had disappeared to. There were only two places they had filmed at that day, and with all the dismantling and packing up of equipment that was going on in the indoor sports hall (Kibum could bet that Minho would have been here instead if the moving ring of fire hadn’t been removed), there was only one other place Minho could go to. True enough, when Kibum walked onto the outdoor field where they had filmed their first challenge of the day, the very same challenge that Minho could not accomplish (but Onew could), the blonde spotted a figure lying down on the ground with a soccer ball abandoned but still within reach, the body a slight distance away from the goalpost. Everything clicked at that moment. Kibum knew exactly what Minho was doing - the competitive idiot was still trying to strike the ball at the crossbar.
It was times like this that the blonde didn't understand why Minho couldn't get it into his thick head that besides skills, some tasks could only be completed with a stroke of luck. Kibum could tell Minho was obviously sore about not being able to win the challenge that afternoon and at this, he could only shake his head and let out a huge breath as he silently walked closer towards the somewhat lifeless body on the field, stopping to stand just above Minho's head. Looking down at the ace of Dream Team who had his arm on his forehead and his eyes closed, Kibum rolled his eyes and was tempted to tap Minho's head lightly with his foot but decided against it. The frustrated frown etched on Minho's face reminded Kibum he shouldn't let him off that easily.
Instead, the triple threat of shinee changed his mind and walked discreetly to the side of Minho's waist, quickly lifting his right leg over the rapper's body, as he now stood on top of Minho, trapping his body in between his legs. Kibum didn't stay standing for long though because in the next moment, he had ruthlessly dropped his entire body weight onto his poor unsuspecting victim who had his breath instantly knocked out of him, his eyes flying open and upper body lifting up as if he had suffered an involuntary spasm as soon as Kibum sat down rather comfortably on his stomach.
“What the fuck- Kibum?!” Minho exclaimed, half shocked, half in pain, as his eyes met his boyfriend’s.
A smile broke out on Kibum’s face as he greeted the rapper cheerily, “Hi handsome!”
“What do you think you're doing?” Minho questioned, confusion apparent in his expression.
“I should be asking you that.” In an instant, Kibum’s smile had disappeared and his frustration was starting to show.
Minho immediately fell silent, knowing his boyfriend was most certainly angry that he had let his competitive spirit get the better of him once again. Kibum watched as guilt flashed across Minho's face and it was then he knew it was pointless to brood on a subject he had touched on countless of times before with Minho.
Letting out a sigh, Kibum rested his hands flat against Minho's chest, patting him lightly as he eyed the soccer ball before looking back at Minho to ask, “So?”
Even if it was just one word, Minho knew exactly what Kibum wanted to know and so, he slowly shook his head to answer, “No... I still can't do it... Not yet.”
Kibum hummed in acknowledgement before he said rather sternly, “Minho... you can't do it.”
Minho wasn’t upset though, because he understood exactly why Kibum wasn’t being as supportive and encouraging as he could be.
“I know bummie, I know you're just saying that because you don't want me to be under the pressure that I have to succeed, so it makes things easier if I fail since there aren’t any expectations to begin with...” With a bitter smile, Minho reached out to hold Kibum's hand and squeezed it tightly, “Thanks bummie... But-”
“Aish!” Kibum let out a groan and looked up to the heavens like he was asking God for help, “How am I supposed to live with such a stubborn competitive headstrong dimwit for the rest of my life?!”
Minho let out a low chuckle which instantly died down the moment Kibum looked back down and shot him a glare.
“This is not funny at all Choi Minho.”
“You're right, it's not. And I'm sincerely sorry you're stuck with such a stubborn competitive headstrong dimwit for life... But I’m not sorry you're madly in love with that dimwit. You know, Kibum, when you love someone, you accept the person for who he is...”
“Yeah yeah, whatever.” Kibum said uninterestedly as he finally got off Minho and adjusted his hand in Minho's hold so he could pull his boyfriend up along with him as well. “Come on, enough is enough. We need to go.”
As he stood up with Kibum’s help, Minho glanced up at the darkening sky and nodded his head.
“Just let me try one last time?” Minho swung Kibum's hand back and forth as he requested with widened eyes and a rather pitiful look.
Giving in to the rare times Minho would use aegyo on him, Kibum sighed and bent down to pick up the abandoned soccer ball so he could throw it towards his boyfriend, “One last time.”
“I love you, Kibummie.” Catching the ball with ease, Minho grinned and quickly placed the ball back onto the ground, adjusting its position with his foot and then setting his eyes on his target - the crossbar.
Kibum stepped aside and watched as Minho took in a deep breath and moved a couple of steps back to prepare himself for the run up to the ball.
With his eyes shifting between his target on the goalpost and the ball on the ground, Minho let out a breath, pausing all movement for a moment as he clutched the material of his jacket at his chest before he finally let go and made his run towards the ball. When his foot finally met the ball and kicked it low and hard, both Kibum and Minho himself held their breaths as they watched the ball fly up towards the goalpost. It happened in the blink of an eye, not that either Minho or Kibum blinked because they both had their eyes wide open to see where the ball had landed. The moment it accurately hit the top of the goalpost and bounced off the crossbar to fly back towards their direction, Minho’s eyes widened, punching his fist in the air, and he instantly turned to his side, not even hesitating one bit to run towards Kibum and pull his boyfriend into a tight hug.
Shocked that Minho actually managed to strike the crossbar in front of his very eyes, Kibum could only wrap his arms around Minho before he slowly relaxed in his boyfriend’s hug and patted him on his back while a breathy laugh escaped his lips, “Are you satisfied now?”
To answer Kibum’s question, Minho released the blonde from his hold. When Kibum had turned to look at him with a puzzled expression, the rapper immediately leaned down to kiss the Cupid’s bow lips he had desperately wanted to get a taste of ever since the owner of said lips did his little cheerleading routine that was especially dedicated for him.
“I am now.” Minho said with a satisfied smile once he pulled away from the kiss and created a safe distance between them before he could do anything more that he shouldn’t be doing in public, “Thanks baby.”
Kibum shot Minho a death glare and ruthlessly smacked him on his arm. “Don’t baby me when we’re in public.”
“So I can’t call you baby but I can kiss you?”
Swallowing the vulgarities that nearly escaped his lips, Kibum knew better than to let Minho get on his nerves and so, he chose to ignore the infuriating question as he narrowed his eyes at his smug boyfriend instead, “Choi Minho, if you’re done here, can we please get back to where we should be? We probably have an entire entourage wondering where the hell the two of us disappeared to.”
Shrugging his shoulders, Minho muttered in reply, “It’s not the first time anyway…”
For both of their own good, Kibum pretended not to hear that as he clenched his fists and forced himself to walk away so they wouldn’t waste any more time arguing. And as the blonde took the lead and made his way off the field, Minho quickly followed behind, his footsteps light, feeling much happier than when he first returned to the field alone since now, not only had he managed to successfully complete the challenge but he also had Kibum alone by his side in that winning moment… and that was what mattered the most.
