“Why am I here?”
It is only when Minho hears the question that he stops in his footsteps, turns around and realises Kibum is standing still, stuck near the entrance and refusing to follow him further into the amusement park.
Minho takes a few steps forward to reduce the distance between them as he smiles warmly at his boyfriend.
“I thought we agreed to go? Trust me, bummie, we’ll have fun!”
Kibum shifts his gaze away from Minho and looks at the rides and attractions behind his boyfriend. The sight in front of him is exactly the reason why he is wondering how he could let Minho bring him on a date to the amusement park.
From where he is standing, Kibum can already see two thrilling roller coasters that he rather die than sit. He is regretting every bit of his decision to allow Minho to convince him that easily. And when he suddenly hears the terrifying screams all around the place when one roller coaster apparently makes a triple loop, Kibum shoots a chilling glare at his boyfriend.
“Why, Minho?” Kibum repeats his question as he punches his boyfriend hard on his chest, “Why, of all places, an amusement park?! You obviously know I don’t like most of the rides...”
Kibum’s punch is nothing Minho can’t handle. In the next moment, he catches Kibum’s fist and adjusts their hands to fit them perfectly together with their fingers intertwined.
“We don’t have to sit those extreme rides, bum... there’s so much more we can do right?”
Minho swings Kibum’s hand lightly, swiftly pressing a quick kiss to his forehead in an effort to encourage as well as relax his boyfriend.
“But I know you want to try those out...” Kibum mutters out loud and sighs, knowing that one reason why he’s standing in the amusement park right now is because Minho had been so excited the night before when he suggested it, “I’m the last person you should come here with... I’ll just spoil all your fun and you’ll be sitting on the rides alone.”
“But you’re the only person I want to be with.” Minho flashes a disarming smile at Kibum, “And hey, I can always come back another time to have a go at those rides.”
“You sure?” Kibum asks, biting his bottom lip.
“Absolutely.” Minho replies before he tugs on Kibum’s hand and leads him straight towards the carnival games at the amusement park, “Now come on, let’s go win you some gigantic stuff toys!”
*
Both Minho and Kibum realise later that they should have probably left the carnival games for the last because walking around with two gigantic teddy bears and a bag of small animals soft toys is not the most convenient thing to do when they’re trying to figure out what rides to sit. Eventually, Kibum decides to ask a staff if they can leave their winnings at the game stall for the time being. Thankfully, it isn’t a problem and Kibum can finally walk around freely without his vision blocked by the teddy bear. Minho, on the other hand, gets a little upset since he can’t feel smug about himself anymore without those admiring gazes falling upon him and Kibum. Any which way, they finally get their plans going and check out the rest of the amusement park, trying to find a ride Kibum is willing to sit.

“The carousel?”
“Too kiddy.”
“Bumper cars?”
“I don’t want to get bumped around by you or any crazy idiots.”
“Spinning teacups?”
“Too dizzy.”
“River rapids?”
“Can we not get wet?”
“Haunted house?”
“If it’s not scary and the people don’t appear out of nowhere and shock me...”
“Oh look! A kids’ roller coaster! Let’s-”
“We’re over height limit, Minho...”
“Umm… Pirate ship?”
“Are you fcking kidding me?”

By then, Minho and Kibum have already walked almost the entire amusement park and gone through all the possible rides they can take. Knowing there isn’t much choices left, Minho thinks it’s time to give up. They should probably just catch the evening parade as well as the fireworks at night and they can call it a day. Even though Minho never complains, Kibum feels terrible. He knows he has been difficult the entire time but he just can’t seem to overcome his fear. Letting out a breath, Kibum scans the surroundings once more and realises Minho has left something out. He taps his boyfriend on his arm and points to a certain ride once Minho’s attention is on him. Minho follows the direction of Kibum’s finger and sees exactly what he is pointing to before he turns back and raises an eyebrow in question.
“The Ferris wheel?” Minho frowns, “But you’re afraid of heights, bum.”
Kibum shrugs, “I think it’ll be fine since we’ll be sitting down in an enclosed space... And well, just keep me distracted so I won’t look out and see how high we are.”
Minho sighs, “We don’t have to, Kibum, we can just-”
“I want to.” Kibum cuts Minho short and makes the decision for them.
In the next moment, he pulls Minho towards the Ferris wheel and joins the queue.

As they enter the passenger car of the Ferris wheel, Minho can tell how nervous Kibum is. His boyfriend’s fear of heights isn’t a joke and it actually gets Minho worried enough to decide it’s better if he pulls Kibum out of the seat. But Kibum takes his hand first and pulls him down, forcing him to sit so he can wrap his hands securely around Minho’s arm and have his boyfriend as his anchor.
“You okay, baby?”
Kibum takes in a deep breath, eyes fixed on Minho, and smiles weakly, “Yeah.”
As the Ferris wheel begins moving, Minho pulls his arm out of Kibum’s grip and wraps it around Kibum’s shoulder instead, making them both as comfortable as possible in a small four-seater car for the 15 minutes ride.
“Look in front, the view is lovely.” Minho says, taking in the sight in front of him, before he adds teasingly, “Or you could just look at me since I’m more breath-taking than the sights outside.”
At that, Kibum finally relaxes as he rolls his eyes at Minho and pinches him on his side.
“You’re full of nonsense.”
Minho laughs as he singsongs, “You know it’s the truth.”
Kibum sighs exaggeratedly, “I don’t know what to do with your ego sometimes...”
“I blame you for that.”
“How is it my fault?”
“You always stare at me like I’m the most perfect human on earth.”
Minho expects his boyfriend to slap him so he instinctively flinches but nothing happens. All he feels is Kibum moving out of his embrace and creating a distance between them. It tugs at Minho’s heartstrings when he sees Kibum simply looking at him with an apologetic expression.
“This must have been the worst date ever for you.”
“Nope.” Minho casually replies in hopes of lightening the atmosphere, “The worst date was when I was set up with the daughter of my father’s friend...”
Kibum remembers that date; Minho had told him all about the matchmaking attempt and how they tried to pass the meeting off as a coincidence but was clearly very much intentional. True, that was indeed the worst date ever so Kibum nodded and corrected himself.
“Right... then this must be the second worst date for you.”
Minho shakes his head again, “No, remember the time-”
“Minho.” Kibum quietly calls his name but it’s enough for Minho to know he should stop playing around.
Minho sighs as he leans forward and kisses Kibum quickly on his lips.
“I’m happy, Kibum. Quit worrying...” Minho assures his boyfriend, “And stop feeling bad about it. I mean, look where we are now, we’re on a Ferris wheel! What more can I-”
Upon noticing how Kibum’s face instantly pales at the reminder of where they are, Minho stops speaking and can’t help but laugh helplessly. He shakes his head defeatedly at his boyfriend’s phobia before he reduces the distance between them and kisses Kibum again, but this time, slowly, passionately and distracting enough for Kibum to circle his arms around Minho’s neck and respond to his intoxicating kisses.
Their kiss lasts long, both of them deep into the kiss, with Kibum leaning so much towards Minho that the rapper gets pressed into the corner of the seat and all their weight rests on one side of the car. Naturally, their car swings and for a moment, Minho is worried Kibum may have a panic attack. However, when all he feels is Kibum’s hand sneaking under his shirt, he proudly realises he is indeed a really good distraction. Minho peeks an eye open and notices that Kibum seems like he has forgotten where they are, his attention all on Minho himself. Minho smiles into the kiss and slowly moves forward, pushing Kibum back with his arms around his waist, as he takes control by nipping at Kibum’s bottom lip before he breaks the kiss.
“Baby?”
“Hmm?”
Kibum looks like he’s still in a daze and Minho forgets why he even broke the kiss as he chuckles and is unable to resist kissing Kibum again. That sparks off another round of kissing, the second time around more playful and teasing, almost competitive, than the first.
It’s only until the car suddenly jerks that Minho and Kibum spring apart from each other, Kibum holding Minho’s arms in a death grip and Minho instantly checking out what has happened. He looks outside and discovers that they are already nearing the bottom of the wheel. Minho laughs heartily as his eyes meet Kibum’s.
“Looks like our time is up.”
Kibum cautiously sneaks a peek outside and realises Minho is right. He releases his grip on his boyfriend, naturally creating a safe distance between them, and adjusts his clothes and hair so he’s back to looking prim and proper.
Minho is so caught up with looking at how adorable his boyfriend is that he forgets about attending to himself until Kibum reaches out to tug down his shirt properly for him and even helps him tidy his hair.
“Baby, stop staring.” Kibum mumbles under his breath.
Minho finally snaps out of his trance and smiles embarrassedly. Even after all these years, Kibum still has a way to capture his heart.
“Minho, we’re going to get off soon...”
“I know, I know, I’m ready.” Minho adjusts his expression and becomes serious in the nick of time.
The attendant unlocks the gate and they get out of the passenger car one after another. It is only when they’re finally back on solid ground that they face each other again and talk.
“So...” Minho begins, “That was fun, wasn’t it?”
Kibum nods, willing the blush that he knows is forming on his cheeks away, and mutters, “Better than expected.”
“I promised you it’ll be fun, didn’t I?” Minho grins, “And we still can catch the parade show now and fireworks later! I think we’ll make it in time if we head there now…”
Minho starts walking in the direction of the parade but he realises Kibum isn’t following him. When he sees Kibum staring at the Ferris wheel, a curious Minho walks back to his boyfriend.
“What is it, bum?” Minho asks, “Did you leave something behind?”
Kibum shakes his head as he reaches out to hold Minho’s hand. The next thing Minho knows, Kibum is leading him back into the queue for the Ferris wheel.
“Let’s go again.”
It’s not just that. When Kibum also winks at Minho and slips his free hand into the back pocket of Minho’s jeans just to give his ass a squeeze, Minho decides the Ferris wheel is not only the best ride in the amusement park but also the greatest invention ever.
