In which Kibum lists out 5 tips for dating someone like Minho.

Author's Note: this is actually a sequel or rather, an epilogue to An Ambiguous Affair but alternatively, forget the 26-chapters long story and just imagine actor!Minho and averagestudent!Kibum in a secret relationship and that will do the trick. ^^;; it's rather wordy but i still hope you'll find yourself enjoying the read. :)

Kim Kibum is in his last class for the day when his mind wanders and it suddenly (and very randomly) occurs to him that he deserves credit for choosing to date an actor. Dating an actor, or for that matter, a public figure is not an easy feat. In fact, Kibum advises that the average person should not take up the challenge. But of course, he is no average person. Kibum likes to think of himself as the best boyfriend any actor can ever ask for, especially when said actor is one who has to keep not only his sexual orientation but also his relationship status under wraps. Kibum may have met some difficulties from the start because understandably, there is some getting used to to be done, but he now knows the dos and don’ts when dating an actor at the back of his hand. Truth be told, there aren’t much dos when it comes to dating a public figure but there are certainly plenty of don’ts that Kibum has to remind himself on a daily basis. Among all these don’ts, there are 5 big don’ts that Kibum always has on his mind.

#1 Never watch him when he is in front of the cameras

When you know a person inside out, it just becomes extremely difficult and terribly uncomfortable having to see a side of that person you know is especially presented for the public’s eyes. This image that Minho portrays in front of the cameras is just not as perfect as the true Minho Kibum got to know. In fact, it is considerably different. Kibum can’t say he likes the concept that Minho has been instructed to present by his company. Yet, he can’t say he dislikes it either. After getting to know the real Minho, Kibum just rather see his true self. Watching Minho at events or interviews just makes Kibum doubt who Minho is and question how on earth his boyfriend can manage his image so well. Sometimes, Kibum hates how Minho has to be so self-conscious about himself till the point that it feels burdensome. He just wishes his boyfriend can relax and be himself. To some extent, these different sides of Minho actually scare Kibum so he chooses to avoid watching Minho when he’s in front of the cameras. He rather simply be in touch with the Minho he knows is true.

It’s no surprise then that Kibum gets goose bumps each and every time he watches Minho’s dramas. It’s probably because of his good looks and perfect image that leads to Minho always landing the role of the ever so charming and lovable good guy. Even if he acts as a bad guy, there will always be some back story that gives viewers a reason to sympathize or pity him, leaving audiences unable to hate him. Any which way, Kibum just can’t stand watching the dramas Minho stars in because the lines are just too damn cheesy or the plot is too predictable. Don’t tell Minho he says this, but Kibum doesn’t have a thing for Korean dramas and movies. He has always been more of a fan of international movies or television series. He doesn’t enjoy Korean productions enough to even sit through one episode.

Either that, or Kibum will spare himself the jealousy he can’t help but feel from watching Minho and his love lines with the beautiful actresses. As much as Kibum knows it’s acting, everything doesn’t matter once he sees that same familiar face looking at his love interest the same way he looks at him, or the very lips he loves land on some other person (be it anywhere on the face or body) that isn’t him. You really can’t blame Kibum for not watching his boyfriend on television, but at least even though he isn’t stationed in front of the television, Kibum always remembers to keep the television on to contribute to the ratings.

Kibum rarely watches Minho’s dramas but he knows Minho never holds it against him. Even on the rare times that he does, the television is always on mute. But anyway, it really doesn’t matter since Kibum is already familiar with the script and entire storyline considering Minho always practices his lines with him. Now that’s definitely more fun than watching Minho on television. And Kibum is always more than happy if things can stay that way. Besides, why does he need to watch his boyfriend on screen when he already has the real deal with him? Trust him, your life is already a drama when you date an actor.

#2 Never leave kisses at places that can’t be hidden

Kibum learns this the hard way after Minho gets caught with a hickey on his neck, a love bite that can only be made by Minho’s special someone who no one knows is Kibum. And this is all because of one single fan taken photo of Minho at the airport. Obviously, nothing gets past the eyes of the fans. It takes only a second for everyone to spot that noticeable suggestive mark and a split second for speculations to begin. Kibum knows what the fans have been saying; he himself follows Minho’s fan sites and sees the photos that have been uploaded. In fact, he even joined in the discussion that one time and commented anonymously that everyone was overreacting and the hickey was just a mosquito bite. When he gets blasted with responses in a blink of an eye, Kibum is reminded that the fans are never to be messed with. From then on, he realises how important it is to be careful with Minho.

Now this is a tough one. After all, how the hell does one stay rational in the heat of the moment? This is probably one of the most challenging things Kibum has ever encountered. It took Kibum a long time to master the art of kissing Minho at all the right, appropriate places. He doesn’t want to reveal much about this but let’s just say, he kisses Minho everywhere below his shoulders and particularly loves leaving bruising kisses on Minho’s lower abs and inner thighs (just because Minho becomes a mess when he reaches those spots). Besides that, Kibum also has to pay close attention to Minho’s schedules. This makes things much easier for Kibum and you can say that their bedroom activities are largely dependent on Minho’s work. If his boyfriend is due to appear in public the next day, Kibum will try his best to not lay a finger on Minho because he still can’t trust himself to be careful about where he kisses and bites Minho. Conversely, if Minho is free of schedules, Kibum will be sure to wreck all sorts of havoc with his boyfriend in their bedroom… or anywhere else in the actor’s apartment. It’s the times when he can lose control and just do whatever the heck he wants with Minho that Kibum loves and treasures the most. That’s when he feels Minho truly belongs to him and he doesn’t have to give a hoot about the public.

#3 Never get overly emotional on things that his job requires him to do

It is rather ironic for Kibum to say that he actually has to stay professional even though he isn’t the one who has a job. Still, Kibum has his work cut out for him when he is Minho’s boyfriend. It hasn’t been easy since the very beginning and like Kibum mentioned before, it takes a whole lot of getting used to. Being in a secret relationship can really take its toll on the couple. It is even tougher when Kibum has always been a straightforward person. And it is precisely because of this that they can’t seem to stay away from arguing with each other especially at times when Kibum is frustrated, unhappy and displeased while Minho shoulders everything and keeps his feelings to himself. It is just in his boyfriend’s nature to be patient and understanding. Yet, sometimes, it gets even worse when both Minho and Kibum are equally stubborn and their cold wars last longer than necessary. Kibum knows arguing does nothing good to their relationship but he isn’t the type of person to hide his true emotions. And when Minho remains helpless to his situation (because really, what can he do about it? It’s his job after all.), they’re both left defeated and always prioritising Minho’s work.

As time passes, Kibum has learnt how to manage his emotions well. He learns to be as patient and understanding as Minho. He learns how to deal with the situation of dating an actor and not be too demanding on his boyfriend who already has to deal with so much at work. Kibum learns to be supportive. He learns that it really isn’t that good to be so honest (because the truth does indeed hurt) and so he figures that some things are just better kept a secret, especially things that he know will place additional stress on Minho. Kibum hides his jealousy and allows Minho to be as comfortable with people (aka the actresses) that he needs to be comfortable with. He learns how to give Minho the space he needs. Kibum also tries not to lose his cool if he never gets to see his boyfriend for days, weeks, months especially when filming begins. When Minho calls or texts him, he remembers to act strong and not reveal how much he actually misses his boyfriend. Knowing that Minho will do whatever it takes to make him happy, Kibum doesn’t want his boyfriend to go through all that trouble. Apart from all that, as much as he hates how Minho is judged 24/7 by the media and public, Kibum also learns how to calmly deal with the attention Minho gets and at times, even turns a blind eye to news, be it good or bad, about Minho. Most importantly, he learns how to trust Minho. Kibum trusts that Minho loves him, and that he is always trying to be the best boyfriend he can be. Knowing this is more than enough for Kibum to become not only a better person but also a better boyfriend to Minho.

#4 Never appear attached or in a relationship for fear of people asking questions

Kibum thinks this is the hardest of them all but Minho has certainly mastered it. Perhaps it’s a skill that comes with his job - portraying the single and available yet never attainable charismatic actor. Unlike Minho who is naturally able to hide his true self and act as if he belongs to the public (aka fans), Kibum realises that a secret relationship is indeed called a secret relationship for a reason. No one, save for themselves and perhaps two other people in the entire universe, knows that Choi Minho and Kim Kibum are together. Their relationship is top secret, highly confidential that if they tell any random person about who their significant other is, they will probably have to kill that poor soul. The consequences of their relationship getting exposed are just too frightening for both Minho and Kibum to face. So Kibum really isn’t exaggerating when he says only the dead will know about them… and this is the exact reason why he keeps his relationship status a secret no matter how much people ask or want to know.

But that’s the thing - secrets are hard to keep, especially if it’s a secret that is the reason behind your happiness and you just want to shout it out loud for the whole world to know. Kibum can’t help the smile that naturally appears on his face when he talks to Minho on his phone. He can’t resist taking photos of Minho or the both of them together in their own private time and stare at these photos that never fail to make his heart feel so full. It sounds silly but there are times he wishes he can have one of these photos as his wallpaper. Besides that, it is always tempting to spend time with Minho in public and openly walk together side by side. Every now and then, Kibum gets greedy and wants to hold his boyfriend’s hand or stop others from staring at him with lustful eyes. He knows Minho is attractive and he doesn’t have a problem with people shooting his boyfriend admiring gazes but all Kibum wants to be able to do is tell everyone (or at least, send signals) that Minho is his so he can be the possessive boyfriend he can rightfully be. Yet, reality sucks because Kibum can do nothing but lie low and be extra cautious about revealing his relationship status to anyone. The best thing he can do, Kibum realises, is always act oblivious and simply not care about revealing his life to anyone.

It is at this thought that the people around him suddenly start moving, standing from their seats and making their way out of the lecture hall. Kibum snaps out of his thoughts and realises that the professor has ended the class and he has been spacing out for almost half of the lecture. Staring at his lecture notes that have only two small paragraphs of words hastily scribbled down when he was still paying attention, Kibum lets out a sigh and reminds himself to take it out on Minho when they meet at night. How dare Minho distract him even when he isn’t physically around? Kibum grumbles to himself as he packs his stuff and finally exits the lecture hall.

Deciding to first send an angry emoticon to Minho, Kibum pulls out his phone and has his eyes glued to the screen, full concentration on finding the right emoticon to send to his boyfriend that he doesn’t pay attention to his surroundings. Not that he needs to anyway since Kibum is more than familiar with the layout of his university and knows exactly which way to go even though he is blindly walking. He is strolling along the busy corridor, barely looking up to check if anyone is in his way (since even though he is blindly walking, others have eyes to see and make way for him) when he suddenly hears dogs barking. It is already weird enough that there are dogs on campus but it gets eerily weirder when Kibum actually recognises those barks. Just as he looks up from his phone and turns towards the direction of the sounds, a hand catches his arm and forces him to a stop.

Kibum lets out a gasp, his eyes flying open, as he turns around and is caught completely by surprise at the sight before him. There, sitting on the bench in a pose good enough for a magazine shoot is Minho, wearing his favourite pair of Ray-Ban Wayfarer as his only disguise, smiling so widely at him with an extremely familiar dog carrier at his side. Kibum’s jaw drops as he looks away from Minho and spots his poodles, Comme Des and Garcons, with their heads popping out of the carrier, looking right back at him. Kibum can’t believe his eyes and so the next thing he does is reach out to slap Minho on his arm.

“What the hell are you doing here with my babies?!”

Expecting Kibum to react like this, Minho flinches quickly enough that Kibum’s fingers end up brushing against his skin as he laughs and shrugs, speaking in a volume only Kibum can hear, “Schedule got cancelled so I thought it’ll be nice to bring our sons out to play and watch the sunset at the same time.”

Kibum instinctively looks around and realises that they have indeed attracted enough attention to send alarms ringing in his head. He forces a smile on his face as he quickly pats his dogs soothingly on their heads before zipping the carrier up and carrying them in one hand. Kibum then pulls Minho up with his other hand and forces his boyfriend to walk with him as they quickly escape the curious stares and head to the car park where he knows Minho’s car is.

“You’re out of your mind.”

“I just wanted to surprise you…”

“Surprise me? Do you mean scare the living daylights out of me?”

“Kibum…”

Kibum doesn’t have to turn around to know that his boyfriend is acting pitiful again. And even if it’s all an act, Kibum finds himself once again, helpless and very much defeated every time it comes to Minho. All Minho ever has to do is say his name in the deep voice and Kibum is putty in his hands. It is then he remembers the last, and the most important, don’t when it comes to dating an actor.

#5 Never, ever, ever, fall in love with an actor by the name of Choi Minho who constantly forgets he is a public figure and essentially makes all your efforts go to waste.

(“Ki… bum…” Minho manages to say in between kisses as he is pressed into the driver’s seat, his hand resting on Kibum's hips.

“What?!”

Hands clutching Minho’s shirt, Kibum pulls away just enough to have a good look at his boyfriend in the already confined space of his car.

Minho purposely licks his lips as he then asks, “Thought you were angry with me for being seen in public?”

“Yeah, I was… I still am, but I also know why you do the things you do...”

Minho grins, “Not that I’m complaining but we are still in public…”

“Your windows are tinted.”

Kibum simply explains before he reconnects their lips and shuts his boyfriend up for good.)
