It is Kibum’s last day at work and his colleagues have organized a mini farewell party for him at a bar after office hours. Judging by the smile on Kibum’s face as he enjoys drink after drink with his soon to be ex-colleagues, you would think he’s in the best of moods because he is finally free to move on to what they all think is his dream job. Everyone knows it is Kibum’s decision to leave the company but that’s the only thing that is true. Everything else is a lie. Kibum only looks happy. Even though he is getting exactly what he wants, Kibum hates that it has to boil down to this - him quitting his job just because he can’t control what his heart feels.
“Cheers! Wishing you all the best, Kibummie!”
Right on cue, Kibum’s heart betrays him once again as he accepts the toast offered by his colleague… the very colleague that is his reason for leaving. When Kibum meets Minho’s eyes, he is reminded of why he has to quit his job. If he were to stay any longer, Kibum doubts that he is able to stop himself from loving someone who will never belong to him. He knows just how much it’ll hurt to love someone he cannot love. Minho is out of bounds. Not only is he married to a lovely lady, but he also has a beautiful daughter who Kibum has actually come to love too (Minho brings his daughter to work too often).
It’s all too much. Kibum feels too much. He can’t deal with being with Minho 5 days a week, 8 to 9 hours a day. He simply can’t spend this much time with Minho in the same office and discover how perfect this man is for him day after day. Kibum has reached his breaking point. In the end, his only solution is to run away. And since this is his decision, he might as well leave with a bang.
And so he does. Kibum downs drink after drink, accepts toast after toast of well wishes, and says goodbye to his colleagues who leave one by one… until it’s just him and Minho left. Fate is cruel, and so are Kibum’s ex-colleagues when Minho ends up responsible to get a drunk Kibum safely back home. Even in an inebriated state, Kibum knows he has to keep his distance from his perfect man. Every time Minho comes close and tries to support him, Kibum shakes Minho’s grip on him away as if his touch burns him. Well, it actually does. That’s why Kibum still insists on walking by himself even though he can’t stand properly or balance himself for nuts.
“I can go home myself, don’t worry.” Kibum waves his hands in the air, trying to gesture for Minho to leave, “You should get back to your family… It’s late! Your family is waiting!”
Kibum ends off in a mumble, legs feeling like jelly, head spinning and all of a sudden, his vision is a blur.
“Kibum!” Minho shouts as he quickly catches up with Kibum, “Watch where you’re going!”
Kibum thinks it’s too late a warning. He’s already falling.
And when Minho catches him, Kibum realises he will never be strong enough to let go.
