[The face on the video feed is calm and collected, and the voice is professional but friendly. There is very little personality apparent in either.]

Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Ingrid Grimmholtz. I arrived here about a week ago. I have been working with Professor Hastings since that time, and I have a few questions for all of you about your ( Read more... )

[Robert promised Ingrid he would fill out the questionnaire, and despite whatever other events may or may not happen for him today, he is filling out that damn questionnaire.]

Name: Professor Robert Alexander Hastings
Date: May 17 (year unknown; clarification on Luceti time?)

Time and date of arrival in Luceti: January 21, early afternoon. It took me quite some time before I was aware of any specifics, being rather at a loss.
Location of arrival in Luceti: Somewhere between ten to fifteen metres from the school; the area was snowy at the time, and it was in a cluster of trees.
Circumstances of arrival in Luceti: A relatively-unceremonial occasion; I awoke sprawled in the snow with my journal beside me. My items were all absent from my position, save my journal.

Time and date of departure in respective world: Sometime in the middle of the night of October 15, 2332 A.D., Standard Terran Years.
Location of departure in respective world: From my bedroom in my residential unit on Terra.
Circumstances of departure in respective world: I ( ... )

There is... c-conjecture that... s-says otherwise... But I... a-am not certain if it ought to be d-discussed here.

...

[Robert nods almost imperceptibly to himself.] It is... c-certainly a lot of data to analyze. And the s-situations here often seem so d-disparate.

...

I-I wish I knew the r-reasons as to why. [It might answer the questions about this place.]

In any case, my sample size is certainly too small to make any positive conjectures. I will simply have to wait for more data.

[And... Ingrid can't think of anything else to talk about.]

What's the weather like today?

[Lame lame lame.]

[At least it's a relatively safe topic. That and Robert's calming down a bit now.]

... The weather has been... mostly clear so far, today. Assuming a-any sort of actual weather patterns here, perhaps it is a simulated f-front.

... I hope the clear weather holds awhile. [He was kind of disliking the amounts of rain.]

What's the temperature outside?

[There aren't even any windows where she is. It's sort of depressing.]

A-Approximately twenty degrees Celsius... It wavers somewhat, but that is the average t-temperature for today.

... Are you a-at a comfortable temperature right now...? I, er, c-could come assist you if not... [Robert is going to learn those bubble controls as well as he knows his nanocomputer eventually.]

[Teasingly:] I thought you said you wanted to be alone.

[Robert's emotional failure means he doesn't quite register it as teasing.] Your h-health comes first, Ms. Grimmholtz.

[And part of him doesn't really want to be completely alone. Just... just, he can't face Don right now, not after turning down the offer to live with him that hasn't been threaded out yet. Ingrid wasn't able to do that, for better or worse, and it meant that Robert didn't feel the same obligation to stay there.]

[Somehow, teasing him and then watching him not get it is almost more fun than just back and forth teasing. But she's not cruel.]

I appreciate that, Professor. I admit, I'd enjoy the company. If you feel up to it.

[His voice is a little soft and sad.] ... I am not sure if I can manage it right now, though...

... But, s-soon, perhaps. [He's trying to give himself a reason to not hide inside forever, really.

It's not working that well.]

Th-thank you for listening, at any rate...

Of course. I... [Feel indebted to you in a way that goes beyond simply helping me out of a bind?] would gladly listen to you. About anything.

[Robert's tone is a little distant here, but genuine in some ways.] I... appreciate that, Ms. Grimmholtz.

... Sometimes I find it... difficult to be open about things. But I will try my best.

I know what you mean. I find it difficult as well, sometimes. But you've been my closest friend here, and I want to help you.

[...

It's the first time anybody ever said that to him. Like when Helios first called him "friend", this strikes a real chord in him.]

... I...

I am glad. I am... t-truly glad that I could... have the honour of that p-position, here.

[Shyly:] It's hardly a manner of honor. You've been so kind to me and I enjoy your company.

I am... nonetheless honoured by it.

It is the first time anybody has... s-said that to me h-here.

... O-of course, I tend to be friendly with people who are... b-better at this than I am. [To Robert's perspective, at least. Though almost all of his friends are horrible at social things, too.]
