last week i went on an awesome narrowboating holiday with five friends from back home - have a look at the numerous photos here.

That sounds like so much fun! I am trying to figure out an American narrowboat equivalent though, is it just like a motorboat with a sleeping area? Or what we would call a party boat that has a little pavilion roof?

narrowboats are long, thin boats specially designed for our skinny canals. here are a couple of pictures:

i don't know if you really have them in the US, as our canals are much narrower!

I can't say I've ever seen anything quite like those. We had a big canal back in my home state of New York but it was quite wide so you just needed normal boats.
