matt, my very clever boyfriend, finished his BA in history this year with astoundingly good results all round (he got a first and prizes for the best dissertation, best student, best everything you could possibly think of) and he's doing a masters in october. he applied for 1+3 funding (for his masters year and 3 years of a PhD) from the research
