I mean, really! I just... I have no words. He said what? Who gives a shit about the right to bear arms? 32 people (33 if you count the shooter) died! They had families, friends, futures, and now they're dead, and the president is talking about the right to bear arms?

How dare he?

Well, in the interest of fairness it wasn't the actual president who said that--just one of his White House spokesmen. And I'd really really like to think that he was just answering a specific question, but there's nothing in the article that says that that and the little cynical part of me keeps suspecting he wasn't. :-/ And in the grand scheme of things, whether or not the man was answering a question doesn't really matter. Of all the things that shouldn't be made a major concern immediately after a tragedy like that...

(Standard Disclaimer: I've used a gun, my family owns guns, and my little sister has brought home ribbons from the county fair for her shooting. I have no problem with guns or the NRA per se. But when people start putting their right to bear arms over other peoples' right to survive, that's another story.)

Oh, I have no problem with people bearing arms. My uncle has quite a few. Guns, I mean, not arms. That would be odd... Anyway! On topic now. My problem is that this is not the time for debate on that right!

No, thank goodness. My roommate's still waiting to hear back from a few friends, though.
