CHARACTER NAME: Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing
FANDOM: Hellsing
CANON: End of Chapter 57 as Alucard and Seras return to her side
WHAT THEY LOST: Memories of what Arthur Hellsing looked like, or his voice sounded like. She can remember her father, and the lessons he taught her, but she can't picture his voice or face. She also cannot wish up pictures of him, or keep any pictures others may wish up of him for her.
ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is exactly as her name describes her. She is a true noble Englishwoman, with a long heritage and steadfast loyalty to Queen and Country.
Perhaps the youngest inheritor to the prestigious Hellsing family, she came into it at the age of twelve when her father - Arthur - died and explicitly left the estate in her hands instead of his brother's. It was only three days after his death when she faced her first test of mettle and came through with flying colours. Braving both her Uncle's attempt on her life, and the release of a monstrous vampire, she stared it all square in the eye and defied it to do its worst. And that is, perhaps, the key part of Integra's character. She is unwavering, unrelenting, absolutely sure of her dedication to duty and the cause that she will stop at nothing to see it done.
This is shown very clearly on Walter's betrayal and his traitorous initiation into Millennium. Despite the fact Walter has been the family retainer since well before she was born, and the man had almost raised her single-handedly after Arthur died, she still orders his death with the words that 'all who oppose us must be laid to waste, no matter what'. She renounces Walter as her butler, and orders Alucard to destroy him. However, it's also in this betrayal that we can notice her rarely shown more human side. While she is giving these orders, it's obviously seen that she is in tears, and when Walter does finally die it hurts her to the point of screaming his name.
While she may appear cold and unyielding, she does have an emotional side which raises its head every so often. Said emotional side is quite hard to trigger though, and is usually only apparent after either severe trauma or taunting from Alucard.
Her relationship with her 'pet monster' is a complex one at best. He saved her when she was a child, and that is something she won't be able to forget. He is also one of the last links she has to her late father, so an emotional tie is definitely created. That being said, she can never forget that he is, and always will be, a monster. A creature bound to servitude, who would quite happily decimate innocent people in the pursuit of his goal to find a human worthy of killing him. He enjoys taunting her, goading her and forcing her to show her hand, especially when it comes to the morally ambiguous decisions she is forced to make on a regular basis. One example of this is when Alucard and Seras are sent on a mission to Brazil, where the soldiers sent against them are innocent of the machinations of those pulling the strings from behind the scenes. Alucard attempts to goad Integra, perhaps to make her question her decisions, but the only outcome is a renewed resolve that he should 'search and destroy; leave nothing but bloody smears behind'.
The key qualities that define Integra are her duty, her honour, and her utter inability to back down in the face of a challenge. Her family organization is everything to her, and all her actions are determined by her loyalty to 'God and Her Majesty'.
THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: Dawn was breaking over the banks of the Thames, but the morning light was obscured in a different fiery glow. All around Integra, London was burning. The conflagration that had been begun by Millennium, and had been taken over by the Inquisition, had spread so that it seemed the whole of England were a mess of ash and heat. The acrid scent of half charred bodies was heavy in the air... choking when mixed with the thick black smoke that rose in plumes from the shop fronts that had been full of bustling trade scant hours before.
Yet it would seem as if this devastation were not there, for all the expression that showed on the face of the head of the Hellsing family as she walked towards home. Collected and confident, she strode along with a coterie of priests in her wake. Vatican Special Division unit - Iscariot - who had been almost ludicrously easily browbeaten into following her, confused as to the nature of whether their orders to arrest or keep watch on her were more important.
From the moment she had taken the reigns of the Hellsing estate, Integra had known what had been expected of her. Duty weighed heavier than an anvil on the shoulders of such a young girl, but she would never even think for a second to shirk it. When her father had died, he had put his trust in her, and she would die before proving that trust misplaced. For God and Her Majesty, she had served to keep England safe from the monstrous threats that most people believed just myths.
And now those very same people were the ones that lay littered around her feet - dead and dismembered, some poorer souls still moaning in pain from wounds too horrific to contemplate. It made her sick, this was not their war and the ones that had brought it to their doorstep had much to answer for. Her reverie was broken abruptly with the sound of another bomb going off, the snarl of inhuman monsters prowling the streets barely a few hundred yards from where they stood. One of the priests was muttering about it being too dangerous. To walk into Hell itself at her command was foolish, when they should just have arrested her to begin with.
"If you wish to run, then do so as the cowardly dog you are. But unless you wish to change your mind about restraining me by force, this conversation is meaningless." Integra shot him a withering glance, footsteps not slowing in the slightest as she kept on towards her goal, glasses flashing in the eerie glow of the firelight.
Gritting her teeth, she walked a little faster towards her destination. Even if there were no souls left alive after this night, she would personally see to it that the monsters that had committed these atrocities were sent to Hell were they belonged.
She was Sir Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, and that was her duty.
FIRST-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE: [The first thing the open journal would record was the distinct flicking of a metal lighter and the sound of someone exhaling.]
Iscariot.
[For it had to be them. She was in their custody just before she woke here, although she could not remember any act of violence that could have knocked her unconscious. Perhaps in the confusion of Alucard sailing his damned boat up the Thames, she had been caught unawares.]
The time for these petty games has long passed. I will not be held here on your whims, while my duty still remains to be done.
[She waits for a response. One second. Two seconds. Three... The journal would record another exhalation and then the sound of a cigar stubbing out.]
Very well, if you have not even manners enough to answer me then I shall be taking my leave.
INTENT: I'm not sure exactly, only that I love Integra and I think I'd like to play her as my final character.
