This Was Bound To Happen Sooner Or Later

Sep 05, 2004 15:56

Well, I knew this was going to happen. I specifically told my boss no more than 24 hours a week. So what does she do? She schedules me 29. When I approached her about it, she told me she's stepping down so she's no longer my boss. So what I did was write a polite letter asking my next boss to lower me down to twenty-four hours or less for this week ( Read more... )

Wal-Mart's Taking Over MotherFucker! anonymous September 5 2004, 13:24:33 UTC
Just kidding...lol...

Wal-Mart is a machine, man, they're going to kill Meijer, Kmart and Target, if they haven't done so already. My boss at the store basically admitted his goal in life is to shut Meijer down, and pricewise, quality-wise, I think it's working.

Meijer and those other stores sure have a monkey on their back!

So if you quit Meijer, you'll just gun for the teaching job in Asia?

Is that like a traditional teaching job, where you stand up in front and teach people? Or is it more like an intensive tutoring job? I could probably do that, since I do have Japanese qualifications, but obviously not as superior as yours, Herr Doro!

You still haven't answered my other question; Did your manager demote herself because the store wasn't doing well?

Lol. I hope they kill Meijer and shove that Meijer soundtrack down its throat.

I was going to gun for that job anyways -- now I have the time to do it :). The job is less than all of your questions. It's a "teaching job" but I'm just a language assistant for the Japanese person teaching the class. If there's any tutoring, it won't be intensive. I'll just be there to assist, give examples, and maybe help out their English clubs if they have any. It's 32 hours/week and pays around $30000/year. The biggest problem is living expenses, but even with those I could still save a massive amount of cash.

And my boss stepped down because of the stress and the long hours. She was working 63 hours a week. And I thought forty hours a week was unbearable...lol

Hey, where could I pick up or complete an application...after all, I am partly qualified...:)

That sounds pretty cool, and a lot better than Meijer!

Hey anonymous September 5 2004, 21:19:47 UTC
What's up man?

No hard feelings about last time.

You know what fucking sucks? I work in TOYS! And some other woman that works with me told me after Thanksgiving and during Christmas, there are fistfights over the toys! So now, in addition to being a sales associate, I'm now like crowd control too! Crap, I saw some other big guy working with me, so maybe I'll be ok!

Hey, put me on your friends list, so I can read it.

Samjung23. I can log on and read it.

Well, as far as I'm concerned, being fired and quitting is pretty much the same here since they fire you if you stop showing up to work (and if another place called me for work that paid better, I'd stop showing up anyways). The thing is, I think you have to do it three times to get fired, and I'm just doing it Saturday. Besides, I don't get any special benefits whether I quit instead of being fired. It's not like I'll ever put them on my applications for recommendations or anything. And they certainly can't blacklist me.

Yeah, I don't know much about retail, but Meijer is incredibly inefficient. Most of the time there's one person from the department working who doesn't know what they're doing and the person who does know what they are doing is not there. I'm surprised people can actually enjoy shopping there. I wouldn't be surprised if a newer retailer like Wal-Mart took over.
