You know, I wonder if a country would ever stop people from leaving it in the wild case of a draft. Assuming our history says people have dodged the draft in the past and we study history to learn from the mistakes (among other things of course), would knowlege of history in this way to certain people lead them to close off all borders in order to ( Read more... )

They always try to stop them and bring them back. They did during Vietnam.

I dont think it's unfair however, as what prevents them from moving here or elsewhere? To them, it's just a fact of life I would think. Honestly, I can't see anyone leaving countries with mandatory service simply because there's such a slight chance you'lll actually be in any battle, and if you are, there's only a slight chance you'll die either. Why bother? The odds are probbably better that you'll die in car accident.

Seriously, we're going to have some serious conflict in the future.

North Korea and Iran may or may not happen, but China might soon. The Chinese have a hard-on for Taiwan, and the Americans have a hard-on for defending Taiwan. With George Bush in office, he won't hesitate to charge in like Custer. We can only pray he goes along with the cavalry and gets wiped out. With Dick Cheney and Karl Rove. Then we as Americans can do what we do best, and deny the incident EVER HAPPENED.

This guy is the rigger of riggers. No one came out to vote for this prick.

Whoa, whoa, back up the logic horse. Congress votes on these things, and your representives vote on these things. If you're rep supports those things, and you don't, that's who you need to take it up with. As you directly elected that person to represent you. Bush can't "charge in like custer" anywhere, Congress has to pass a war resolution for what, anything over 30 days or some such?

That's odd... no one? Everyone I know did, including myself. But hey, I can be no one if you like. Apparently the country is 51% no ones. Of course, that reflects badly on Kerry is he was defeated by no one. ;)

That's true. People tend to forget there's a congress that also determines the fate of our nation -- a very conservative congress at the moment. And that's also the reason that no matter how much I'll bitch in my journal about how unhappy I am with things in this country, I'll never put "all" the blame on Bush. But even my representative in congress is somebody I didn't support through my vote.

Of everybody I know that voted, only three people didn't vote for Bush. My friend in the navy, samjung, and myself. My family, and most of this neighborhood I live in voted for Bush. I'm the odd man out, having lived in both very liberal and very conservative places and fitting in in niether of those places -- my political ideologies also reflect this.

Damn, I wish my livejournal was always this active.
