determinism vs. randomness

just a thought:
if it's all random, then why do humans strive for morality?
if it's all predetermined, then why do humans struggle to make the best choices?

see, when it comes to determinism, I think I was pre-determined to marry my husband because looking back over the course of my life (even as young as age 8) I can see how the events of my life lead straight to him as a mate.

but then i think life is just random because my father was born as a product of WWII (his mother was taken advantage of by a german soldier). He was born in the polish worker camp where he was likely exposed to some carcinogen that caused juvenile leukemia that didn't become full-blown until he was 38 (very RARE!).

I agree with the intercessory prayer thing, although scripture does say to "keep on praying at all times with all kinds of prayers" but then I don't necessarily agree that those prayers should be dear god, please don't let my 85 year old grandpa die of a strokeI guess, until we die or the end of the time, which ever comes first (because maybe humanity as a whole from the beginning of time until it's end won't meet our final destiny until all the cards are played) we won't know if it's determinism ( ... )
