Hi Guys,

Just to share with u a small frustration I have recently.. I use to have neighbors from Egypt who stay in the apartment below me. They came in Feb 06. The husband came here as an exchange research scientist for 6 months. I met him in the doorway during their first few days here. As I’m a chatty person, I introduced myself to him, and ( Read more... )

Hi Brandon, I don't think you need to feel sad or stupid. I think in general our Singaporean (confucius) culture teaches us to trust others and give them the benefit of the doubt. When I went to the US for a work and travel programme, I got cheated left and right from the people there, who must be laughing themselves silly how stupid Singaporeans are.

I think it's a matter of difference in culture rather than stupidity. Not to say that americans are evil, just that we are too trusting which impedes our ability to spot those who are crooks.

Hi James, thanks so much for sharing your experience!

I know that there are crooks everywhere, but that shd not prevent us from being disillusioned. Sure, I was really hurt and sad when this incident happened. But after one night sleep, I'm all better. I have done nothing wrong, its his problem.

Besides, good deeds brings good karma. We shd all have tat!

Unfortunately even locals take other fellow Singaporeans for a ride. Three so-called "friends" I have lent money to over the years have yet to pay me back. We are simply too trusting and gullible for our own good sometimes....

#1 and #2 were ex-bfs. #2 was the most expensive by a LOT, because it was partial support for an overseas uni education. He never came back to Singapore. #3 was almost exactly a year ago.

Actually I'm more upset with myself for continuing to be too gullible, and maybe thinking too much with the small head between my legs.
