APPLICATION

Basic Info

1) Name: Jamie Wright
2) Sex: Female
3) Birthday: May 22, 1990
4) Location: Charlotte, North Carolina

Current Issues

What do you think about:
5) World Involvement in Iraq: I am very young, and I tried to understand the war situation as best as I could, but I might have some things wrong and I really don't want to get yelled at, but I think that if we had not invaded Iraq then they would have invaded us. However I do believe that it is our problem, and while it's wonderful that we have allies who are willing to help us, we need to figure this out by ourselves, seeing as we were the ones who got ourselves into it in the first place. (Please don't hurt me.)
6) Cloning and Stem Cell Research: We just did a big unit on this in Biology, and I still have not changed my mind that tampering with this sort of thing is wrong. I think that the ability to create life is in God's hands, and he has a purpose for everything that he does. We just don't know what that purpose is yet.
7) Same-Sex Marriage: I really honestly believe that love is love, no matter where you find it. And that really is all I have to say on the subject.
8) Internet Filesharing: Internet Filesharing. If this means what I think it means, (I hope I'm not sounding stupid here) then I don't see what's wrong with it. I guess I'm to young for it's consequences to really affect me, but unless it's a very important file then there's nothing wrong with sharing?
9) The Death Penalty: I don't remember where I heard this, but someone said once, "Why do we kill people to show people that killing people is wrong?". And I think that the quote really makes sense, because honestly, killing someone who killed something else really isn't proving anything. It's giving that person an easy way out. If someone has committed murder I believe they deserve a life sentence, not death.
10) Michael Moore: And he made that movie, Fahrenheit 9/11? I haven't seen it. And I guess I shouldn't make an opinion on him if I haven't seen his movie, but he sort of comes of as obnoxious to me, and I really cannot stand him. At least not now. I really should see that movie.
11) The 2004 Presidential Election: I was for George W. Bush, I honestly was. And I endured a lot of crap for it. I just don't think that people could have even imagined what it must have been like to be the President during 9/11. Everyone was for the war then. But now that we're in it, people are freaking out and blaming President Bush. People know what war is like, they know.
12) Religious Zealots: I've actually never had any experience with such. My faith isn't very strong as it is, which is sad, but true. But I have a friend who always gets upset with me when I don't go to church and such, and that really annoys me. I think that the phrase "To each his own," goes very well with this question.

Intellect

13) Name a book or movie that changed your life, or at least really made you think. Why (or How)? I think that, as dumb as it may sound, reading the book "Lord of the Flies" By William Golding really taught me a lot about life. I had to read it this year for school and I enjoyed every single part of it.
14) Name 3 books you have read in the last year (be honest): I read "Lord of the Flies," by William Golding, "The 5 People You Meet in Heaven," by Mitch Albom, and "To Kill a Mockingbird," by Harper Lee. I strongly recommend all of them.
15) Who is your favorite artist and why? (Yes; this is a very broad question. It could be a painter, musician, actor, writer, ect.) Diana Vishneva, hands down. (http://www.vishneva.ru/eng/photo.php?gal=2&no=10) She dances for the Kirov Ballet and she is absolutely amazing. She is also stunningly beautiful and watching her dance stikes something inside of me that I can hardly even explain.
16) Cite a quote or song lyric that relates to you or your life and explain why: I know this must sound horribly corney, "The Dancer believes that his art has something to say which cannot be expressed in words or in any other way than by dancing... there are times when the simple dignity of movement can fulfill the function of a volume of words. There are movements which impinge upon the nerves with a strength that is incomparable, for movement has power to stir the senses and emotions, unique in itself. This is the dancer's justification for being, and his reason for searching further for deeper aspects of his art." ~Doris Humphrey, 1937.

About You

17) Label your political standpoint: I'm not old enough to vote, but I did follow this past election (I was only 10 or 11 during the last election) and I've decided that I'm an independent.
18) If had to dedicate yourself to one issue or cause, what would it be? I would dedicate myself to the PETA. I'm a dedicated vegetarian and I don't force it down other people's throats, or try to make them feel guilty about eating meat. I just think that I could do a lot to help the cause, since it really does mean a lot to me.
19) If you could meet anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why? Oh gosh, it would be Alicia Markova, the UK's first Prima Ballerina ever. What an amazing woman, she did so much for the world of ballet and her death affected many.
20) If you were to die today, what would have been your greatest achievement? Wow. If I were to die today, I suppose my greatest achievement would have been my first place win at our national dance competition for my solo, "My Immortal" by Evanescence. It was beautiful.
21) What are you passionate about? As you could probably already tell by now, I'm very passionate about dance.
22) What disgusts you more than anything? I really hate when people make fun of other people for no reason at all. I know it probably sounds very unoriginal but honestly, it hurts me more than people could ever imagine.
23) If you had to choose, who would you rather let die: 100 cute puppies, or 1 grimy homeless man? Haha wow, what a hard question. I guess I'm going to have to say (as much as it hurts), 100 cute puppies. Not because the puppies life is any less valuable then the homeless man's, but because the homeless man deserves the chance to make something out of himself. The puppies could serve some sort of wonderful purpose too though. It's a tough question.
24) How do you measure success? As corney as it may sound, I believe that you measure success by how many people you make happy. Or the moments during which you feel loved, or touched, or simply at home. I guess a life without any of those things isn't really a successful life after all?

Further Thinking

25) Are humans alone in the universe? No, we're not. There's so much more out there just waiting to be discovered. To quote the Smiths, "There is another world, There is a better world. Well, there must be."
26) Who was Shakespeare, really? A genius. A tortured soul turned brilliant writer.
27) What is the meaning of life? The meaning of life? To love, and be loved in return, because what is life without love? What is love without life? Life gives you the chance to touch as many people as you can.
28) Can there be love without hate, and vice versa? No, there cannot be love without (at some point) a hate, and without hate, there cannot be love, for there would be nothing to contradict the love.
