General Question!

Recently, I asked a friend if she was considering attending a UC, because she mentioned that they looked appealing. Her response was that she wouldn't, largely because she finds Californians a bit scary. I've never been to California, but I don't have the picture of Californians being scary. I don't really think of Californians as anything since the state is so large and varied: my general impression varies according to the geographical region and cultural aspect being discussed.

I'm Dutch on my mother's side and American on my father's side. I have lived most of my life in the Southeastern United States and in northern/central Holland, near Utrecht.

Hello fellow CTYer

2002-2005 Saratoga, Session 2

I'm from Connecticut and I plan on applying to UC-Berkeley, because I'd like to go to a good school and want to get as far away from CT as possible.

Berkeley's a good school to choose if you want a great education with the perks of distance. Did you happen to know my friend Andy Yagnatovsky, who sessioned at Saratoga second session this summer? He was Russian, with short curly hair and a guitar.

Ahh, I messed up the years, sorry - I was 2001-2004. I didn't go this year because I was too old, I went to the Iowa Writer's Workshop instead. I never met this kid anyways, but thanks for the advice on Berkeley.

Well, I spent the first 23 years of my life in upstate NY, and the last two in SoCal, so I'm fairly qualified to say that people are the same weather you're in New England or California. There are prettier people here, sure, and shallower people, but no matter what kind of person you are you can find your niche anywhere. There are artsy poetry people here for me, it's not all surfer dudes and Paris Hiltons.
