APPLICATION

Basic Info

1) Name: Piper.
2) Sex: Female.
3) Birthday: September 13th, 1987.
4) Location: Baltimore, Maryland.

Current Issues

What do you think about:
5) World Involvement in Iraq: I think that everyone should be peaceful and mind their own business. It doesn’t seem like such a difficult concept to me.
6) Cloning and Stem Cell Research: I think cloning is a bad idea. It’s just unnatural and mechanic. The ability to produce life without scientific interference is a much more beautiful idea. However, I do believe in stem cell research, because it could help so many suffering people that are stricken with disease. The embryos that they use can come from fertilization clinics where they have extras that they just throw out anyway.
7) Same-Sex Marriage: I am all for true love in any case. I think people who claim that same-sex marriages taint the “sanctity” of marriage need to take a step back and look at straight marriages where spouses cheat and divorce and do all kinds of horrible things to each other. If love can work, let it.
8) Internet Filesharing: Well, it’s great for me, because I’m not the one being ripped off. I’m all for it.
9) The Death Penalty: I don’t think anyone has the right to take the life of a human being. Everyone wants to play God. Besides, who knows how many innocent people they are executing?
10) The Quality of Journalism and the Need for Truth in News: Well, it should be a no-brainer to have to be accurate when reporting the news, because people will believe whatever they hear. I think the media has an obligation to be truthful, but you know they will never be completely professional in everything.
11) New Cabinet Appointees: Yeah, I… really don’t know. Sorry.
12) Religious Zealots: People need to calm down a little bit. I think that religion, spirituality, and faith can be very helpful in people’s lives, but when they take it too far, it can hurt everyone.

Intellect

13) Name a book or movie that changed your life, or at least really made you think. Why (or How)? I really enjoyed the documentary Grizzly Man (the parts where they just showed the video that Timothy Treadwell took of himself with the bears and the foxes, not necessarily the parts where they kind of said he was crazy), because it was a great thing to see a person who was really in touch with nature. Most people don’t even think about what it would be like just to live simply. It was a great look into a very wild human experience.
14) Name 3 books you have read in the last year (be honest): I just recently read The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons by Dan Brown, because I hadn’t read them yet, and I wanted to see what all the hype was about. The Da Vinci Code was kind of dry with an anti-climactic ending. I liked Angels & Demons better, because I thought it was more suspenseful and exciting, but it was extremely far-fetched in just about every aspect. I also just finished The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger today, and it was lovely. It had a very strange and interesting concept, and it was beautifully conveyed.
15) Who is your favorite artist and why? (Yes; this is a very broad question. It could be a painter, musician, actor, writer, etc.) Right now, I’d have to say Ben Folds. His music just makes me calm. I love his style of piano playing.
16) Cite a quote or song lyric that relates to you or your life and explain why: “Such a shame to ruin this bright, lazy, sunny day.” (Ben Folds - The Last Polka) I’m just starting to feel better after being pretty ill for a couple months, and I just finished my freshman year of college, so I just have an overwhelming urge to go outside and breathe in the warm breeze.

About You

17) Label your political standpoint: Moderate, I guess. I mean, I believe in lots of different things. I think the death penalty is horrible, stem cell research is promising, and I have no idea what to do with abortion.
18) If had to dedicate yourself to one issue or cause, what would it be? Supporting research for a cure for Crohn’s Disease, because I have it and know what people go through with it, so it’s something I can support wholeheartedly.
19) If you could meet anyone (dead or alive), who would it be and why? That’s a tough question, but I’d probably want to meet Fiona Apple. I love her music and I think she has a lot of talent. I think we’d get along, because we’re both kind of timid, awkward dreamers. We also have the same birthday, which might account for that. I heart Virgos.
20) If you were to die today, what would have been your greatest achievement? In a materialistic kind of way, getting a full scholarship to college. In a more inner strength kind of way, battling Crohn’s Disease in middle school and surviving without any crazy mental problems, or surviving living in a dorm despite being extremely introverted.
21) What are you passionate about? Music, reading, Crohn’s Disease, obsessively checking livejournal, learning, love.
22) What disgusts you more than anything? People who just…don’t know how to act decently. People who are extremely negative or rude to other people for no real good reason like racism.
23) If you had to choose, who would you rather let die: 100 cute puppies, or 1 grimy homeless man? The grimy, homeless man. Sorry, I just couldn’t do it to the puppies.
24) How do you measure success? Personally, I think success is being happy, however you can do it. Of course, there are other things that I would consider. Like, I wouldn’t consider a happy grimy, homeless, drug addict a success, but, in theory, happiness is success.

Further Thinking

25) Are humans alone in the universe? Assuming that the universe is infinite, I think it’s silly that we could be the only lifeforms that exist.
26) Who was Shakespeare, really? Whoever he was, he was brilliant. I’ve only ever read Romeo & Juliet, Julius Caesar, and Hamlet, but I loved them all. I don’t really care if “William Shakespeare” really wrote them or not, it’s just nice to have something to read.
27) What is the meaning of life? To live and let live and hope for something better.
28) Can there be love without hate, and vice versa? Well, no. I think there will always be a full spectrum of everything with black and white and all the grays in between.

31) What did you think of this application? I enjoyed filling it out.
32) Where did you find out about this community? I searched interests for “rating communities,” because I was looking for something to do, and I’m always looking for new things to read, so I wanted to be a part of the community. Also, it stood out because it wasn't just a "Are you hot or not?" kind of community.
