Beware "economic base" and "shift share" techniques.
People can hardly agree on what constitutes a base industry (the literature contains lots of circular definitions) and shift-share is useless for the sort of prediction the textbooks claim.
On the other hand, beware that your grade doesn't lower too much from critical questioning of these concepts! ;-)
