In the playtests for the original V:tM, the Tremere were written up as strictly NPC only. The change to PC wasn't made until very near to the date of actual publication.
And that's the less-involved WW version of the Tremere, not the 1000x more strict version in OWBN.
Me? I loathe OWBN Tremere and Tremere RP in a way I find hard to express without saying "fuck" a lot.
I actually kind of like the idea of that, if only because it gives us a chance to 'screen' the kind of RP needed for such an intense clan. There is a level of maturity and flexibility one must have as a player in order to deal with the red tape and the stringent order. It really is a difficult clan to play, especially with the way it is currently run in OWBN.
I support this thought, Joe. In my opinion, I think there needs to be a screening process that applies to about 90% of the game. But I'm an elitist bitch.
That said, I will never play a Tremere in OWBN. Ever.
I don't know about coord approval only, if only because leaving it in one person's hands might make a tough position even tougher. If they turn someone down, there's going to be a TON of dramah on their heads (whether the decision was warranted or not). On the other hand, I could understand new Tremere players being required to start play with an Acolyte for a few months, and then being evaluated both IC and OOC before the promotion. Playing an Acolyte/ghoul, which usually necessitates having to think before you speak based on non-existent rank/status alone would be a good learning opportunity. ~A
Coordinator Approval wouldn't do what you wanted. Shocking but folks lie OOC to get what they want IC. Its a great tactic.
If you want,"vetting to ensure they have the right midset to potentialy be ordered around IC a lot and have their RP fucked with in ways they may not like.", you'd need a binding agreement sort of like taking the Oath IC. As as soon as shit hits the fans, they'll run for protection behind any loophole and/or ST friend that they have forcing it to Council.
Tremere isn't for everyone. Thats why assamites got magic.
I always discourage org nubs from rolling a tremere as their first pc, because no one is ever ready for how different owbn pyramid is from what you read in books.
I'm always entertained with how much the quality of tremere wildly varies between cities; but really thats every clan.
