I can't stand those types either. There's no shame in being from NJ. There's shame in being from part of it you feel is indistinguishable.

The only time you can be 'pretty much from new york' is when you're talking to people outside the metro area. Since, NYC is our city, too. In that, it's the city we go to when go into a city.
