Couldn’t tell you which tribe originated the story - perhaps it’s older than all of us, passed down since the march of progress began in this land, despite us - but there’s an old native allegory about perspective that involves a busy city, a tribesman, his pilgrim companion, a cricket, and a handful of pennies.  In the tale, the native can hear a ( Read more... )

I loved this, just as I loved last week's entry. Your Shima must be a remarkable woman.

She really is, and I am so fortunate to have her. I imagine that shows, considering I've written about her two weeks in a row. The irony is, Shima's the one who talked me into doing this because she wanted me to write my stories. She says I'm silly to write about her. But, these last couple weeks, that's just where the prompts led me. The one week I wasn't able to get to a wireless connection in time, I had planned to write on my experience with the Humpty Thumpin Jugband. I hope I get the chance to come back to that.

If the prompts give me another opportunity, and I'm able to continue week to week, I just might. Good to know at least one reader will enjoy that if it makes the rounds!

All of those containers for pennies around the house seem almost like an allegory for opportunity. The individual cents might not be enough to help at any given time, but add them up and they might really help you when you need it.

Boy, I really hadn't thought about the uses of them for arthritic hands, but they've clearly made a differenced for your Shima.

Hadn't thought of the opportunity allegory, but I like it - Thanks! Anything you can use to your advantage, make the most of it. ;)

I am becoming a fan of Shima...loved the way you went around the prompt...and the last paragraph really hit home. Well written.*applause*

Thanks. I wanted people to be able to relate to it in a way that spoke to the bigger issue at hand, rather than just enjoying a series of interesting anecdotes. I'm glad you liked it. I'm sure Shima would be happy to know she has fans. :)

Really enjoyed this, you can feel the warmth. Sometimes you get so much more in the absence of material things.

Thanks! I haven't meant to talk about her so much, she just keeps being relevant to the prompts. But at least people have seemed to enjoy it, and I'm glad of that.
