Itchy!

I was doing a bit of gardening yesterday, and apparently ran into a patch of poison ivy or the equivalent. And I must have scratched and/or touched myself in quite a few places while I still had the oil on me, because I now have a rash on my wrists, belly button, face, and crotch. Guess which is the worst ( Read more... )

i have recently seen good results with a wonder lotion called Tecnu. it breaks down the irritating oil so you can watch it off. in theory it works during all stages of poison ivy rash, including before you get the rash. you might check it out...

I've seen that work well early, but not so much later in the cycle. IME and all.

For once, i'll be glad i'm not seeing you soon!

Here's hoping for healing soon and well. (Prednisone is what i get for it.)

I presume the steroid shot was prednisone; at least you're not also on an oral course of it. It's nasty stuff.

Diphenhydramine (Benedryl), though, that's awesome stuff. Are you feeling boxed in and drawn out?

Benadryl makes me zoney and sleepy, but I've found that for the level I have (this time), Advil works remarkably well.

(Yes, we were weeding the ivy together. Too much sharing!)

No one has asked the obvious question about why you were touching your belly button and crotch right after you were gardening, but I guess we don't really need an answer to that. Hope you feel better soon!

I am the local queen of everything-makes-me-itch-uncontrollably, and I have found 2 things work best, even in conjunction with steroids and benedryl: ice packs (or frozen wet washcloths) and Gold Bold Medicated ULTRA (green bottle) lotion. Lotion best for dry itches, ice best for wet. Poison Ivy or other contact dermatitis is sometimes wet in some spots and dry in others. No Gold Bond in Groin, I repeat: NO GOLD BOND IN GROIN! The ice packs in the groin are a personal choice!

I did in fact apply some ice packs to the groin, and found them to be quite helpful!
