The Pope is Dead. Now What happens? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm not catholic, but I still wanna know what happens to the Catholic people. Can some one fill me in? Sorry for your lost.
All I know is they seal his apartment (board windows, doors, etc.) until the next pope enters it and they take his ring off and shatter it. After that I can only assume a Catholic funeral would take place.
All of the highest people in the Catholic church, like bishops and what not, get together and decide who the next pope will be, I think. I'm not Catholic either. I think it takes like 15 or 14 days. You'd have to ask someone else for the specific details.
She is right...the Cardinals and everyone meet in a room and stay there until they decide a pope. And I think there is something along the lines of...there is a fireplace in the room and the smoke comes out where all of the people can see it, and then when they decide a pope they throw something in the fire changing the color so that the people know they have a new pope...but the person who told me that could be full of shit too! But yeah...we just pick a new one!
The funeral is 9 days after death. The High Cardinals then vote, ones over 80 cannot vote. They all go to place their ballots at the Cistine Chappel. After the votes are tallied there will be white smoke coming out of the fireplace for all the people to see. The Pope's ring is steped on and shattered for the fact that this was his way of signing legal documents. It is distroyed so no one can forge documents. um....I think that about covers it. Oh and all the doors of the churches are covered with black drapes to show that Catholics are in mourning. Ok, now I think that covers it.
