A few notes about the Angel of Presence...

General Info

This personification of the Archangel Uriel is in no way whatsoever associated with the television series Supernatural or any other film media. The character information here comes mostly from Wikipedia (for internet resources) and the Book of Enoch, plus with a bit of Paradise Lost and Divine Comedy tossed in for good measure.

Uriel's name means "Light of God", and he is also the archangel "who watches over thunder and terror". He is also the Angel of Repentance and has absolutely no tolerance for demons or their kin. He also "stands at Eden's Gates with a fiery sword". In Egypt, he was the angel who checked the doors for lambs blood during the great plagues. He also holds the key to the Pit, or Hell, to be delivered up during the End Times. Uriel is an Angel of the Presence, which means he is one of just a few archangels allowed into the presence of God Himself. This is a very high honor and Uriel is proud of his Father's trust and love. Another of Uriel's tasks is to "ride herd" on the Nephilim still walking the earth. The Nephilim are the offspring of angels and mortal women, as told in the Book of Enoch. By general consent among his brothers, Uriel took upon the task of stewardship over this particular race, as they are considered abominations or monsters by the rest of heaven.

Uriel is, by general consensus (both mortal and divine) an ass. Cynical, acerbic and tolerating absolutely no nonsense whatsoever, he doesn't bother mincing his words or sugar coating anything. Other angels might be loving, fluffy and gentle; Uriel's not. He has Tasks given to him by his Father, and he takes them very seriously. However, in all of his duties and tasks, he is, nevertheless, fair. He holds to the rules as best as he can, but he's not above sliding into shades of grey every now and then. In most of his duties, the end justifies the means, and as long as things run smoothly, his sometimes "skating the edges" is generally overlooked.

Uriel is a seraph, an angel with six wings. His are silver, almost metallic. And like all angels, he is capable of flight. Most of the time, in order to blend with mortals, they are hidden from view, although they can and do emerge when necessary or needed. Like all of his brother warriors, he carries a massive fiery sword, which he wields without prejudice. He's one of the few angels who could be classified as a "hit man" or an "assassin" amongst the heavenly ranks. It doesn't matter the job; Uriel's single-minded sense of purpose will see that it gets done.

Demons: Uriel will smite you. One warning, then you are toast. End of story. "Demons", also, includes fallen angels, any celestial being that is not of Heaven's ranks. Just as Michael and Gabriel, Uriel also has the choice to either send the unclean back to the Pit or destroy them entirely.
Nephilim: Mind your P's and Q's. The ultimate sin for that race (which are mostly male) is breeding with a human woman with the intent to procreate. Fornication is overlooked, but purposefully impregnating a human woman will sign death warrants for both the father, mother and unborn fetus. No questions asked.
Siblings: Uriel might as well have a "WARNING: DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS" sign hung 'round his neck. Most of his brothers he tolerates without question; he's unswervingly loyal to Michael, his Captain, and the only one of his brothers he can truly trust is heavensmercy, Uriel's standard-bearer and best friend.

Quirks

- Loves sweet and sour food and drinks. Apple cider, peppermint, dark chocolate, things of this nature. Many angels have a sweet-tooth and can tolerate high amounts of the sugary stuff due to their constitution.

- Loves to fly. Uriel would rather fly himself than utilize any other celestial tricks to move from place to place. There's something about rushing through the air at top speed that's simply joy divine.

- Absolutely will not tolerate disrespect for any of his brethren or, most importantly, his Heavenly Father. Such is the one thing which will spark Uriel's normally calm demeanor and provoke an immediate (and usually smite-y) response.

- Aloof, reserved. Because of the nature of his work, Uriel keeps himself on the outer fringes of socialization. He prefers remaining on the outside, choosing not to get involved with humans as intimately as some of his brothers might. This sometimes makes him difficult to approach, but despite his stern demeanor, Uriel is still an angel of the Lord, and he does have compassion. It's simply rarely witnessed, but there have been cases when it was evident.

- Although he and many of his brothers have the ability to see within souls, Uriel chooses against this most of the time, as 1) it's none of his business; 2) he has other concerns. So, while he might know someone's name right offhand, that doesn't necessarily mean he's going to riffle through the mind's most secreted cabinets. It's rude, besides.

- More to come as events warrant...
