I say it depends. Generally, there's an interest, but it would depend on what exactly is shown and on what.
I personally would love some good looking lettering of "slipping into entropy" on a note-book or a coffee mug ;) Don't have any interest in shirts or alike.

I am very interested, but BE CAREFUL. I don't know what's on the merchandise, but remember that all of your main characters are licensed, so WB could come after you if you have the likeness, certain symbols, etc. of those characters.

Copyright infringement is something that is SERIOUS buisness and I've seen stuff on Cafepress that once WB finds out, they will go after them and believe me they will find out. They have people monitoring all merch sites
all the time for just this type of thing.

Please don't get me wrong me, I LOVE the story, etc. I'm telling you this outta care and concern, not to be a bitch.

That's why I'm asking for suggestions. I've had a lot of people ask if it would be possible to get quotes from the story, or overall witty sayings, on shirts.

That's a fine line and I'm not an attorney, so I would talk to someone who knows all about that before doing anything.

Even though it's your story, like I said before, you are talking about making money off of licensed characters, what they say, etc. so it's an iffy situation and they could possibly go after you if they decide.

I don't know, this is only my personal opinion, but like I said, talk to someone who knows about this stuff, marketing, advertising, someone who knows all the laws pertaining to this and make sure your butts are safe before doing anything. Just a suggestion.

Well, except that's the thing. No money would be made, other than whatever the printing company does for it's charge of materials. No official images would be used. The company holds rights on the characters but not written dialogue that is not taken from official sources and products.

I would be totally up for a t-shirt or a mug, maybe with some Loony art and some cool quotes?

If it's non-profit maybe it would be ok? But I'm no lawyer.

True, but they could still shut them down. Copyright laws and the law itself has many loopholes and I don't think anything is 100% safe, but that's just my opinion.

I totally agree. But without the Batsuit, how recognisable is Batman as a "product"? And the Joker is just a guy in face paint. Right?

Probably a bit cheeky. :o)

But it might be worthwhile looking at copyright laws just to be safe.

You could def use the title of the story and some of the more memorable quotes on shirts without any issues. Maybe just avoid using the names Bruce Wayne or Joker... well mostly Wayne's name. Umm, if you wanted to put any of your artwork on Tees, that would be cool, but only if want to do that.

Edit: I don't see a problem with you making money. Is that wrong? I don't really care. I mean, you came up with the story, so.
