019 - stacking the deck and rukia's culinary skills

Statistics and probability often overlooked, and yet universally applied. Blackjack is the weak point of all forms of casino card-gambling. While the deck is still stacked towards the house, a proper arrangement can change the odds by 2-4% in our favour. This is an interesting statistic, which requires a little more analysis ( Read more... )

You are starting a gambling circle? Soon you will be drinking beer and watching sport while you scratch yourself.

I see I have failed to explain myself adequately. This is not a gambling circle. Rather, this is an exercise in statistical analysis.

Are you inviting a group of male friends to our apartment to exercise with you?

Your idea sounds interesting; I've done rather well with cards by careful observation alone--perhaps a collaboration would be beneficial to your study?

What were you thinking of? I am merely aiding a fellow graduate student and professor in conducting this study, but if you do have something worthwhile to contribute, I am sure I can connect you to the group. We are currently recruiting interested members.

As I'm sure I've said before, I don't have any exceptional mathematical background. In all forms of card games, it's highly beneficial to watch other players and catalogue movements; even the best "bluffer" can be caught. Blackjack, being less dependent on other individuals and moreso on the deck itself, seems to work in cycles. If I had a particularly good round (say I have watched the cards at the table, the ones face up before each person and then made educated guesses about what's left), and I'm up $75 and want to step out, it's important to continue playing for the entire "cycle". By pulling out too quickly, it disturbs the patterns and rearranges the deck in a haphazard fashion that becomes difficult to predict--it's a rhythm, perhaps, something that can be tapped into and utilized, though I'm sure it has more to do with math than I know.

This will be definitely of use. The calculation of cycles in a game could be useful in predicting the probability of a good hand. We meet Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the afternoons in the Mathematics building. If you would like to pick a day and let me know, I can show you where we meet and so on. Please bear in mind that we do require a full commitment from participants. It will take place four days a week in the afternoons.

I'm pretty good at blackjack if you need another player, Byakuya-bo. And if you need a fire extinguisher, I always keep extras around for when Kisuke cooks, so I can spare one. They're also pretty handy for braining mutant produce, but somehow I don't see that as being a problem for you.

We do not require Blackjack players, but rather mathematicians and statisticians or others of an academic nature. There is a fire extinguisher in our kitchen, but thank you for the offer.

I do not make a point of purchasing genetically modified produce.
