Changmin's camcorder holds a lot of secrets.
camcorder
i thought i would forget you as time goes by
but you keep finding your way into my heart again and again
- goodbye my love (8eight)
Junsu is the first person to get caught on film.
Changmin sneaks into the room quietly, capturing Junsu as he sings softly to himself. A shaft of sunlight slides over Junsu's golden-brown hair through the half-open window, and Changmin doesn't think he's ever seen someone so beautiful.
"What in the world are you filming, Changminnie?" Junsu asks, head lolling against Yoochun's shoulder. Yoochun looks down, face turned toward him, and smiles. The car jerks, and they bump noses. The sound of laughter floats around the mini-van.
Yoochun shouts from the backseat, "You have terrible driving skills, Yunho!"
Yunho turns around and glares ("Oh my God keep your eye on the road!" Jaejoong shrieks) at the giggly couple who are exchanging high-fives.
Changmin watches through the eye of the camcorder, watches as Yoochun pauses, stops high-fiving Junsu and instead curls his fingers tightly around Junsu's, interlocking their hands.
"Changmin!" Junsu says, and Yoochun waves his hands in front of the camera lens. Changmin doesn't move, camcorder still positioned on his seat, pointing towards the Yoosu couple.
"God, Changmin, turn it off already!" Yoochun says in mock anger. Changmin shrugs, moving to turn the camcorder off.
Yoochun smirks. "Good," he says, and bends down to kiss Junsu.
Nobody notices that the on button of the camcorder is still flashing red.
Changmin wanders the apartment, the camcorder's strap slipped tight over his right hand, his fingers curled protectively.
Tonight is Junsu's turn to do the dishes. Junsu looks up, still humming as he scrubs a plate. His arms are soapy all the way up to his elbows, and he grins at Changmin.
"Still filming?"
Changmin nods, unwilling to let his voice shatter the beautiful music that is Junsu's voice.
"What's so good about filming me?" Junsu asks. He dips his head as he rinses the dish off.
You are so beautiful, Changmin thinks, and he's sure the camcorder agrees too.
Yoochun tucks a sunflower in Junsu's hair and gives him a peck on the forehead. Junsu laughs, the sound a bright, happy colour, just like the flower behind his ear.
Changmin smiles a little behind the camcorder, capturing the moment in video form.
A close-up on their hands, linked by a chain of daisies.
They walk through the flower field joined by the fingertips, smiling as the sun washes over them.
There is a secret in Changmin's camcorder.
Through the camcorder screen:
Yoochun is laughing as he piggybacks Junsu. He turns around and around, Junsu yelling happily with his arms in the air.
And then Yoochun stops laughing as he slowly pivots toward Changmin. The smile fades from Junsu's face.
"Changmin!" Junsu screams, the shrill sound cutting the air and sending a jolt through Changmin's heart.
Changmin barely has enough time to see the truck coming towards him.
But he sees it, he sees it.
A secret.
But it doesn't matter anymore.
("Do you like him, Changmin-ah?"
"Jaejoong-hyung."
"Do you?"
"I like him."
"As in love."
"If loving him will give him happiness, I will love him. If only liking him makes him happier, I can just like him.")
They scatter his ashes.
They fly away, tugged to faraway lands by the cheerful breeze, and Junsu watches with eyes that have no tears left to cry.
"Changmin-ah," is all he says.
The TV flickers to life, the sound quality a little low, the screen a little crackly, but still, it works.
Junsu sits cross-legged in front of it, eyes wide as he drinks in what's left of Shim Changmin:
Junsu, curled up on his bed as he sings. He wonders when Changmin had taken this, and why he hadn't noticed. He smiles a little - Changmin has always had the ability to sneak up on people without getting caught.
Them at the beach, Junsu making a sandcastle. Junsu running along the shoreline, getting chased by Yoochun. Yoochun finally catches up after a while, and he hops onto Junsu, the two of them rolling around in the sand howling with laughter. Then Yoochun pins Junsu down and kisses him, the sunset flickering over them.
God, Changmin, turn it off already! Yoochun says. Changmin fumbles with the camcorder for a while. Good, says Yoochun, and then bends down to capture Junsu's lips in a kiss.
Two hands joined together, the sunlight giving them an almost heavenly glow. Daises curl around the pair of hands, the white flowers shivering in the slight breeze.
A backdrop of a flower field. Changmin, hair windswept and eyes bright. Hyung, he is saying. I used to really like Junsu-hyung -
Junsu on Yoochun's back (Junsu's heart lurches). Yoochun grinning as they twirl around and around and around and -
Changmin's face. Junsu's hands find their way to clamp over his mouth as he watches Changmin, Changmin who is covered in blood and dying but still fights to get a smile on his broken face.
"I love you," Changmin says. He grins. A crackle, and the screen fades to black.
