My life

I'm a hardcore Catholic. When I graduated from high school at age 18, I fully expected that I would be engaged by the time I graduated from grad school, if not married. Or, wedding date set. Then we'd get married, he'd get a job and be the breadwinner, we'd settle down, and before long I'd be turning out Catholic babies. That was what I wanted ( Read more... )

Your dream job is in Albany, right? Is it possible that God decided to fulfill two of your dreams in that place, but you just don't know it yet? I wouldn't despair, pragmatically, you're in a good place. It's nearly impossible for two people to find good jobs in the same geographic place right now, so maybe the one you seek is already there? You're 23, right? Nope, not desperation time :)

You still have some time - the good stuff doesn't come all at once, you know. :) Maybe once you're a little settled in Albany, you can get out and do some social things and meet people. Not necessarily the person of your dreams, but just new friends. Who knows what can happen from there?

I understand the feeling when all sorts of your friends your age are getting married. Last summer, there were FIVE weddings (for a total of nine of my friends married in one season). Yeah, it does make you think about where you're at. And honestly, I've come to the conclusion that 22 is WAY too young to be married. I'm not saying it's a terrible idea, or these marriages won't last... I'm just of the opinion that if that person is right for you at 22, they will be right for you 5 years later, or 10 years later. I know there's a biological imperative for some people, they want to have oodles of kids, but none of the young couples I know want kids for a while until they finish their education, get stable jobs, etc ( ... )

oh i forgot to mention that you tend to know a lot of surburban kids with upper middle class families. if you knew more kids from poorer neighborhoods you'd know a lot of people that have been in and out of school, in and out of relationships, lots of single parents....a lot of people don't get married young. a lot of people don't settle down right away. you take a drive into the city you'd see what i'm talking about.
