What prompted you to join the navy?

That's a pretty bold statement to make. Who's to say the Universe wouldn't have course-corrected? Sure, you played a part, but you weren't responsible.

I think your statement is bold. I have never seen evidence of a course-correcting universe and who are you to say such a thing would happen. I never claimed I was responsible for anything I listed. I just said that the choices I made had a positive unintended outcome. On the other hand if I chose at this point in time to change something as huge as getting out of the navy in the past I would be responsible for the outcome. Responsibility implies foreknowledge; something I didn't have.
