I'm so proud of you, Connie! I think this might be one of my favorite of your posts ever :) It's inspiring. But the sun is like that down here from about March to about November, and sporadically throughout the winter! But you make me want to go for a walk!
Thanks, Loni! I know what you mean; there's something kind of inherently inspirational about running stories. I had never really seriously considered running until I stumbled across Ben Does Life, and learning his story made me want to make part of it mine too.
I think my best treadmill 5K was about 38-43 minutes or so. It'll take a while to get back there post-birth, but I have hope! I hope to run an actual outdoor 5K either sometime this fall or more likely next spring.
I had expected to find it harder to run outdoors than on the treadmill and was surprised when I tried it and discovered that, once I got used to it, I actually prefer it. It's more of a challenge to pace myself, but it's also more visually interesting, more fluid to change my pace, and seems to push me to push myself more.
I'll definitely have to work up to the 10k, but it seems like a reasonable next goal. Increasing my distance by half a mile each week seemed to work okay while training for the 5k, so I'll try to do the same for the 10k! There's something about the rush of race day that just begs the question, if I can do this, what else can I do?
