you did it!! so happy to see you've made it, i can only hope one day to commit myself to something so remarkable and actually pull it off. well done, i hope you feel amazing and your feet aren't too broken.<3
The nice thing about distance running, at my level anyway, is that it doesn't require much in the way of skill, so just deciding to do it was probably the most important part of getting it done. My feet seem a bit swollen (shoes are tight) but are otherwise okay! My quads are pretty unhappy though.
that's true, and i appreciate that aspect. also the fact that you don't have to pay to run in a particular place with particular equipment (beyond basics of attire etc.).
i hope to decide to do it maybe in the spring - i have meant to for such a long time and my excuses are that i would feel self-concious and i have weak ankles (true).
but i would really like to feel fit and strong, and seeing friends, including you, make this astounding progress and achieve great things is such encouragement.
if you fancy the marathon in Montreal any time, let me know and i will see about coming to cheer you on (:
If it helps, the self-consciousness went away for me eventually, at least for the most part. After a while, you realize there are all kinds of people out there, all shapes and sizes and speeds, and you don't see anyone for long, and no one pays as much attention to you as you do to yourself, and they probably all look bad in their race photos too.
In the end, I'm still not sure I have any great love for running. It's still hard to talk myself into going out for a run a lot of the time. But wanting to feel fit and strong is exactly what it's about for me.
